The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
- Updates, edits, and maintains web pages and sites, including but not limited to testing content and website accessibility to ensure access for the disabled;
- Consults on and responds to new content requirements and web graphic design needs to effectively use digital communication to advance the department’s and the County’s goals;
- Archives digital material that must be retained for public records compliance;
- Uses content strategy principles for effective persuasive communication;
- Organizes and arranges the way web data is displayed to increase user functionality;
- Processes work requests for changes and maintenance to the content of departmental web sites;
- Responds to public inquiries sent via email or routes to appropriate personnel for response;
- Confers with business users to identify web content requirements and establishes appropriate parameters;
- Translates informational and esthetic content into a functional website within County standards;
- Gathers and integrates esthetic design layout and formats and posts content on the appropriate web portals and sub-sites;
- Maintains knowledge of current web site development practices, applications, and technology;
- Evaluates and recommends basic enhancements that facilitate efficient production and effective content design improvements to County Internet/Intranet web pages/sites;
- Researches, analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves web site content issues;
- May train business users on procedures and County standards for adding, editing, and deleting content from web pages/sites;
- Creates templates of approved web page layout;
- Monitors work requests sent to the web team to ensure timely processing and completion;
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW), as required*;
- Performs other related duties, as required.
Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks, plus the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:
Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through training and experience equivalent to 30 semester units (45 quarter units) of college coursework. Relevant analytical, administrative, lead, supervisory, or management experience that includes interpreting rules and regulations, gathering data and formulating recommendations, and report writing can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis;
and
One (1) year of full-time experience managing web site content.
Special Requirements
- Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.
- As a condition of employment, pursuant to California Government Code Sections 3100-3109 and Local Ordinance, all County of Santa Clara employees are designated Disaster Service Workers (DSWs), including extra help. A DSW is required to complete all assigned DSW-related training, and in the event of an emergency, return to work as ordered.
Knowledge of:
- Web content management and computer graphic applications;
- Web design layout and formatting;
- Web site operating systems and servers;
- Principles of training;
- Principles of research and problem solving;
- English usage, style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
- Common computer systems and applications.
Ability to:
- Learn and use new and emerging web technology applications and tools related to web page and web site maintenance and design;
- Work independently and as part of a team;
- Exercise initiative and judgment;
- Work under pressure and deadlines, effectively prioritizing assignments;
- Identify problems, research and examine alternatives, make recommendations, and implement improvements and/or corrective changes to maintain Internet and Intranet websites;
- Perform quality assurance testing on web content design, updates, edits, and improvements;
- Adhere to County standards and procedures for web site and web page maintenance;
- Create templates of approved web site layout;
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, at all levels, including colleagues, the public, and representatives of other agencies.
