Warehouse Supervisor (Water Distribution)

Position will be open until filled.

GENERAL PURPOSE: The employee is responsible for purchasing materials and maintaining proper inventory and related duties as required. He/she performs supervisory duties within the Warehouse & Office. Works closely with office staff to ensure daily workflow is completed accurately and within established policies.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Responsible for all aspects of parts procurement including sourcing, requisitioning, receiving, verification, and invoicing.
• Is responsible for guiding and performing Parts Warehouse audits as needed or required.
• Works with various vendors for sourcing, ordering, deliveries, corrections, and other activities related to parts based on departmental needs and requirements and in accordance with City policies and procedures.
• Informs management of any potential short falls, problems, or supply issues.
• Regular and timely attendance is required.
• Compiles parts specifications and departmental needs for bidding purposes. Constructs and reviews bid documents.
• Develops, implements, and ensures organization, cleanliness, and safety policies and procedures related to Parts Warehouse.
• Manages Parts Warehouse operations and ensures proper workflow in accordance with operational needs and accounting requirements.
• Maintains and catalogs OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Responsible for developing, implementing, and ensuring inventory controls are in place and adhered to to reduce or eliminate loss, shrinkage, theft, and errors.
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm, with on-call shifts, can include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Inputs receiving and distribution information into computer system and resolves errors.
• Oversees all aspects of the Parts Warehouse including daily operations and assigned personnel.
• Maintains records related to parts in accordance with departmental and organizational policies and requirements.
• Responsible for assigned personnel including operational assignments, training, discipline, and evaluations.
• Researches, procures, maintains, and issues to crews specialized tool inventory.
• Generates reports, inspections, verifications, etc. related to inventory and inventory management.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; and one year of Water Utilities Department experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses Or Certifications

• Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
• A Texas Driver License with a good driving record is required.

Required Knowledge Of

• Parts, materials and supplies currently in storage.
• General office practices and procedures.
• Policies and procedures pertaining to inventory and recordkeeping.
• Supplies and usual availability of parts.
• Equipment and methods used for repair of water and sewer mains.
• Geographic layout of the city and the ability to read maps.
• Various types of pipes, sizes and materials used for repair.
• City policies and procedures, especially the Purchasing Policy.

Required Skill In

• Operating a forklift to move or store supplies.
• Use of hand power tools.
• Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
• The above qualifications would be gained by completion of one year of warehouse experience involving ordering, receiving, sorting and issues supplies or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Operating a computer utilizing a variety of business software and HTE software.
• Developing and implementing procedures for cost effective management of allocated resources.
• Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
• Operating two-way radio equipment.
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City employees, officials, representatives from other local, state and Federal agencies, and salespersons.
• Effective verbal and written communications.
• Establishing and maintaining contact with salespersons and city employees. The contacts are structured in nature and require tact and judgement.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• Work is performed in Water Utilities Department facilities; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
