Water Distribution Operator Jobs

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Water and Wastewater Superintendent the Water Distribution Operator is responsible for the operations, maintenance, construction, and repair of the City's water distribution system. Employee is responsible for operating backhoe and excavator in the installation and repair of water lines.

Essential Job Functions

• Repair water and sewer leaks as necessary
• Performs other similar or related duties as assigned
• Flushes fire hydrants as necessary
• Performs
• Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
• Maintains the condition of the water distribution and pumping system including fire hydrants
• Installs new service lines for residential and commercial properties
• Perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
• Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)
• Operates specialized equipment to make repairs in a safe and efficient manner
• Observes all safety regulations and communicates unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries to supervisor; immediately
• Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
• Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
• Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
• One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.
• Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
• Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
• Must have high school diploma; or equivalent.

Knowledge, Abilities And Skill

• Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public
• Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and the necessary safety precautions.
• Ability to follow instructions with a minimum of supervision.
• Knowledge of safe and effective operation of equipment and machinery.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• This is safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing
• Work involves frequent and recurring assignments requiring strenuous effort
• Lifting, moving and carrying, moving on bicycle over rough terrain or barriers, and potential need to subdue or restrain violent persons or animals.
• Regularly exposed to extreme heat, hot, humid, and cold weather conditions
