Job Description

POSITION

The VP of Human Resources, Retail will be responsible for all facets of Human Resources domestically for Retail at Ashley Furniture. Today, that includes approximately 4,100 employee throughout the US.

  • Drive execution, continuously improve the core, and reallocate resources at pace;
  • Understand and shape employee needs; create distinctive value for employees; build deep employee relationships;
  • Provide the change management required to help all people engaged in this work to fully understand and appreciate the importance of unlocking and resolving challenges that impede business growth.
  • Provide leadership and thought partnership to the Retail leaders across all the stores, helping to develop their human capital plans in line with the business strategy; lead and develop HR organization to do the same at all levels of the organization;
  • Anticipate and interpret market change, envision the future, and decide strategic priorities;
  • Boost employee retention and productivity through effective engagement and management strategies that recognize and unlock potential for performance and growth;
  • Co-create meaning and purpose; engage and energize the organization; lead through influence;
  • Work in partnership with the Chief Retail Officer and his team to understand all facets of the business, in order to create and build the HR plan organization that can best support the business plans;
  • Attract, develop, and retain a high performing team of Human Resources professionals including HR generalists and related professionals in employee relations, employee experience, performance management, talent acquisition, etc.;
  • Develop talent; build and develop teams; strengthen organizational capability;
  • Experiment, collaborate across boundaries, and scale and invest new ideas;
  • Create possibilities from new thinking, generate disruptive change, and lead change;
  • Effectively manage and progress within an environment that has not had a sophisticated Human Resources function or plan but is in the midst of that transformation;
  • Oversee organizational HR compliance; knowledge of multi-state and local regulations; working knowledge of employment law in each of the states of operation; ensure keen oversight of all risk and manage appropriately;


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spanish as a second language is desired;
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, master’s given additional consideration.
  • 15+ years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, including 10+ years directly connected to a Retail store and distribution center environment
  • Has worked closely with HR leadership in the development and implementation of a more modern Human Resources function, aligned with the business goals;
  • Astute in all facets of Human Resources – employee engagement, performance management, employee relations, talent management, and talent acquisition;
  • A person who thrives being physically in Retail stores frequently, and embraces the opportunity to travel to meet colleagues to better understand their needs;
  • Has worked very closely or directly reported to senior leaders of the company, including serving as a business partner - coach and mentor;
