Mission

The Vice President of Human Resources will collaboratively develop and drive company HR strategy for field business units, group, division and corporate management teams including employee relations, recruiting, training and development, performance management, compensation, and labor relations. Will implement and validate Human Resources programs, policies, and initiatives that are aligned with short- and long-term business plans. Fosters a culture in the organization that promotes employee involvement, engagement and a passion for customer excellence.

The role of Vice President of Human Resources is a senior-level position, direct report to the President of Barrett Industries with matrix reporting to the Corporate Vice President of Human Resources.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with and development of company best practices in accordance with Human Resources policies and government agencies, employment laws and regulations.
  • Act as the primary contact with internal labor counsel and outside government agencies.
  • Oversee internal investigations and responds to federal and state complaints and charges.
  • Manage and guide the company’s recruiting efforts in conjunction with the Director of Talent Acquisition to identify qualified applicants and improve employee engagement strategies to attract and retain qualified employees.
  • Develop Labor Relations strategic plans for all Collective Bargaining covered facilities and support communication as well as education and training as it relates to labor relations.
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the Human Resources function (e.g., NLRB, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, ERISA, FLSA).

  • Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 10-12 years’ experience in Human Resources management with a minimum of 3 years recent experience as the top HR executive of a company with 500 plus employees with both nonunion and union employees.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations and laws including EEOC, NLRB, FMLA, FLSA, ADA Title 7 and corresponding state and local statues.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily.
  • Strong HR Generalist background with broad knowledge of employment, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, training and development.
