Job Description

The Renewables Generation Director – US Solar Operations provides overall management direction to ENGIE North America (ENGIE NA) managed wind and solar projects in the U.S. Responsible for the management, oversight, and direction of ENGIE NA Power Projects, including responsibility to ensure safety, superior operational performance, profitability, contract compliance, decision making and problem solving, regulatory compliance, legal interface, guidance and direction to Site Managers, and monitoring plant activities.


The position is located in Chicago, IL or Houston, TX and reports to VP, Head of Renewables Operations, ENGIE North America.


What you’ll do:


  • Interface with ENGIE’s international BUs and R&D units, ensuring active knowledge transfer into the NA renewable organization.
  • Authorize the hiring, termination, and pay schedules for ENGIE NA operating facilities.
  • Operate as a team member with all employees of ENGIE NA staff
  • Carries other duties as assigned.
  • Optimize plant technical performance through enhancements, upgrades and modifications to physical site equipment.
  • Identify and direct professional development of subordinates, including identifying needs and supporting plans.
  • Sets objectives for their team in alignment with ENGIE NA strategic plan and maintains a record of their performance through regular evaluations and makes recommendations for their merit increases and incentive pay.
  • Responsible for the oversight and direction of plant compliance with company polices and procedures, governmental regulations, Power Purchase contract compliance, operations and maintenance agreements, annual operating plans, and good engineering practices at each facility.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and procedures.
  • Monitor the day-to-day operation, maintenance, fiscal, and administrative functions of each operating facility.
  • Interface with commercial organization to enhance communications, outage decision making, dispatch decisions, metric utilization, and plant capability to maximize economic performance and/or optimize the sale of energy output from the facilities.
  • Prepare and submit for review and approval annual and long term strategic plans, budgets and periodic reports for ENGIE NA managed facilities.
  • Actively promotes a safety-minded working environment and safety programs consistent with the ENGIE NA Health and Safety Principle and ENGIE’s global governance initiatives.
  • Direct lender-required technical and budget review programs.
  • Recommend the hiring, termination, and pay schedules for Site Mangers positions for approval by COO Asset Optimization group at ENGIE NA.
  • Comply with all ENGIE NA policies and procedures.
  • Improve plant financial performance through modifications to contracts, reflecting changes in market design or operating philosophy.
  • Apply emerging trends to add value to existing and future ENGIE NA projects.
  • Maintain ENGIE’s leadership in power generation through interaction with industry stakeholders and key suppliers.
  • Oversee the management of a portfolio of power generation facilities as an independent power producer operating in regulated, merchant, and PPA environments.


What you bring:


  • Superior problem solving, organization and prioritizing skills
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications, in particular, operational and financial modeling and budgeting
  • Strong organizational/prioritizing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of wind and solar power generating facilities, equipment and technologies
  • Negotiations skills in high value long term contracts
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering preferred
  • Ten (10) years’ experience with demonstrated leadership and management of staff.
  • Ability to make significant independent judgments
  • Experience with Development, Operations, Maintenance, Dispatch and Optimization of Wind and Solar Assets.
  • Strong leadership/management/communication skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time

The pay range for this role is: $137,700 - $350,480. The listed salary range represents ENGIE’s good faith estimate for this position and represents the minimum and maximum for new hire salaries across all U.S. locations. An employee’s rate of pay within the range is determined by their work location, and additional factors, including qualifications, relevant experience, and demonstrated performance over time. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range stated above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. This position is eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package and certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses and commissions. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws.
