Job Description

Required:

  • Experience developing and presenting effective training materials using a variety of media.
  • BA/BS in human resources, organization development, human resource development applied behavioral sciences, business administration, liberal arts or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather data, analyze information and prepare reports.
  • Two (2) years of related professional work experience.
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Experience working with both staff and leadership in order to assess needs and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated commitment and achievement in advancing diversity and inclusivity.
  • Proficient with technologies and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite.

Preferred:

  • Instruction and productivity technology.
  • Knowledge of HR disciplines, including competency modeling, workforce planning, performance management, recruiting, and onboarding.
  • Knowledge of organizational change management principles, methodologies and tools.
  • Work experience in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of adult learning strategies and evaluation methodologies.
  • Master's degree in human resources management, organization development, applied behavioral sciences, business administration, instructional design, or learning science.

Training & Organizational Development Specialist
Work Schedule/Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, hybrid with possibility of 1-2 days per week of remote work. Hours and days may vary depending on the units needs.

Salary: $70,000 Depending On Qualifcations

The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications to apply for a collaborative and creative Training and Development Specialist position. We seek applicants who are excited about the opportunity to be part of an academic institution and a Libraries’ award-winning, innovative model of library service. The University Libraries organization is distributed across 12 sites on the Twin Cities campus, with a staff of approximately 350 including the state funded Minitex program.

Summary
The Training and Development Specialist coordinates and provides educational and development programs to Libraries staff and leadership. The Specialist supports continuous learning and the development of skills to ensure the libraries can advance the University’s mission and goals. Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Libraries and those engaged in similar endeavors throughout the University, the Training and Development Specialist supports efforts to strengthen the Libraries capacity to advance new directions that require significant and ongoing shifts in resources and commitments, assist in aligning the work and people with the strategic direction of the Libraries, and creates and implements staff development programs that foster highly effective staff and management structures. The Training and Development Specialist is responsible for the development of programs including resource requirements, and program administration. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development.

Responsibilities:
Learning and Development 65%

  • Assist in the education and development of Libraries leadership and staff in areas such as development planning, employee engagement, team effectiveness, cross functional team efforts, goal setting, project management and diversity, equity, inclusion.
  • Obtain and/or develop effective training materials utilizing a variety of media. Ensure that development and delivery of training reflects best practices of adult education theory using a variety of delivery methods: instructor-led, coaching/mentoring, job aids, workshops, group discussions, eLearning. Forums delivered in-person and virtually.
  • Maintain and update the on-line training resources.
  • Analyze and document training survey data, prepare and present reports to HR Director.
  • Research, design, develop, implement, and evaluate training and development projects, including management and staff development and leadership training programs, collaborating with outside consultants where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain organizational communications to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources.

Organization Development 20%

  • Participate and assist in the implementation of change processes for Libraries strategic initiatives to include facilitation for libraries groups or teams.
  • Consultant with Libraries leadership and service units’ managers as it relates to training needs in order to solve problems with employee retention, job satisfaction, career development, etc.
  • Create assessment tools and reports on Library demographics.
  • Assist with the continuity of the existing Mentorship Program. Measure efficiency and usage, develop reports and recommend changes to enhance the program to the HR Director.
  • Measure the impact of interventions on staff performance, efficiency and overall job satisfaction.

Human Resources 15%

  • Assist with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training efforts.
  • Coordinate and conduct New Hire Orientation.
  • Support the Libraries’ process for national and local searches by developing, implement, maintain and recommending changes to user training programs.
  • Serve on College/University committees initiated to improve HR relations, processes, employee engagement and workplace culture.
  • Optimize continuous process improvement by supporting updates to strategic HR programs, processes and procedures that impact organizational effectiveness.
