Position Description

UCLA Extension is considered one of the top institutions of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.

Course / Program Description

Students will analyze how they spend their time effectively, explore tools for effective planning and scheduling of time, and learn how to prepare themselves for the expectations of post-secondary level courses. By setting realistic goals, developing note-taking skills, and managing priorities, this course aims to increase students' energy levels and improve their productivity. It is expected that by the end of the course, students will have developed time management, note-taking and organizational skills for use in the college environment.

This is a part-time contracted position for 2 classes per week taking place on monday/wednesday and/or monday/friday (approximately 2-5 hours per week)

This course is for the the Pathway program. Pathway at UCLA Extension is a postsecondary education program for students 18-26 with intellectual or developmental diagnoses. Pathway’s goal is to prepare neurodivergent young adults for employment, independent living, and a capacity for self-directed lifelong learning through higher education at UCLA.

This instructor will be running the course, adjusted the set curriculum for the class's needs, and working with the program manager to make sure all students are able to do basic note-taking, prioritizing, and calendar planning by the end of this course.

Instructor Duties

• The instructor will be provided the syllabus and course content, but is encouraged to build their own teachings and expand on previous lessons.
• The instructor will run this course twice weekly with the assistance of 1-2 Instructor Assistants. This course will take place in person in Westwood Village, and will consist of 15-20 students.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Bachelor’s degree, teaching credentials, or equivalent (Preferred)
• Ability to add to and revise syllabi based on Pathway curriculum (Preferred)
• Ability and interest to work with students with neurodivergent students (Preferred)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Understand and be able to incorporate the use of technology such as time management apps into lessons
• Willingness to commit to teaching from September to March (Preferred)
