Temporary School-Based Advocate Counselor/Youth Mentor

Wediko NY is seeking a Temporary School-Based Advocate Counselor/Youth Mentor to support several schools in Queens through June 2023. The position is temporary through June, with a potential of additional work next school year.

The Temporary School-Based Advocate Counselor/Youth Mentor will work closely with their supervisor to provide social-emotional supportive programming to partner schools. The position is responsible for the planning, with support of supervisor, individual and group mentoring, classroom/teacher support, outreach and coordination, as well as all reporting needed for billing, evaluation and clinical purposes. The School-Based Advocate Counselor/Youth Mentor will report to the Program Manager or designee. Based on an hourly range of $22 - $30 an hour, the position will require a work schedule of up to 40 hours a week. Work hours are school day based and will vary depending on school schedule.

How You'll Be Making a Difference

• Provides crisis support, conflict mediation and social-emotional support (with support of a supervisor)
• Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with school
• Completed required documentation in a timely manner for billing, evaluation, and clinical purposes
• Plans with supervisor and facilitates classroom sessions, as needed
• Coordinates and provides individual and group mentoring sessions for selected students.
• Compiles and submits required compliance reports for funders and contractors
• Working with supervisor, provide staff professional development workshops as needed
• Facilitates communication between students, families, and school staff

Qualifications

• Strong communication (verbal and written with proficiency in English) and interpersonal skills
• High School diploma or GED
• 1-3years’ experience providing direct services in school-based or residential program

• Bilingual Spanish preferred

• Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner
• Ability to drive is strongly recommended.
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
• Commitment to ongoing learning and development, proven use of supervision to improve practice
• Commitment to working from a strengths-based perspective
