Temporary Architectural Historian Jobs

• Historic resources surveys and assessments, including research, photography, and historic context writing.
• Cross-discipline case studies: historic resources and climate/carbon impacts.
• Prepare documents and reports for review; including historic property surveys, National Register eligibility evaluations, and photographic documentation.
• Manage edits and dissemination of the study report template.
• Update study reports for proposed and/or existing Landmarks and Historic Districts as required.
• Updates to BLC’s reconnaissance surveys of Boston historical resources archived in the Massachusetts Cultural Resources Information System.

Assist with public outreach:

• Help produce public presentations, participate in neighborhood community events, and assist neighborhood organizations with historic preservation advocacy.
• Help update BLC website as needed to provide updated access to research, reports, resources.
• Help update City’s social media accounts regarding proposed Landmarks and other BLC activities.

• Familiarity with Boston history and architecture is preferred.
• The candidate must possess strong communication skills including phone, writing and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards is required.
• The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have a professional demeanor and strong organizational skills, and possess the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Currently enrolled in or have graduated from a graduate program in historic preservation, urban planning, community development, American studies, American history, or architectural history.
• Solid office skills and knowledge of Google-based platforms and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required.
• The candidate should be able to work in a team environment and manage tasks as delegated by project lead.
• Recent undergraduate college graduates will be considered but must have a very strong background in above areas and very strong writing skills.
