Job Description
Our Company

Miso Robotics is transforming the food industry, and making lives better. We've developed an AI-powered kitchen robot named Flippy which automates the most repetitive of kitchen tasks, such as operating a deep fryer. Flippy is fun to watch, but under the hood, he’s powered by a sophisticated AI platform – all driven by our proprietary deep learning experience and patented technologies.

Miso is a well known first-mover in kitchen automation, AI, and robotics. The company has raised over $100 million from crowdfunding, which we believe makes it THE most successful crowdfunding story in history. It has successfully piloted its products with the most prominent global brands in food, and now it’s time for the company to partner with institutional capital and super-charge the commercialization of what we do.

The challenge of bringing AI and robotics into commercial kitchens requires many disciplines to work together, and the composition of our teams at Miso reflects this multidisciplinary approach. We’re proud to have built a world-class team, and we’re looking for more exceptional people to join us.

If you believe, like we do, that the future of the kitchen involves artificial intelligence and robots (HINT: It definitely does!), and if you want to count yourself among the handful of amazing people on the leading edge of creating them, then Miso Robotics may be the right place for you!

Our Values

  • Innovation is in our blood - we are intrepid.
  • We live with a TEAM mindset - we win together.
  • We work relentlessly together to solve issues.
  • We are bought in, each of us is dedicated to the mission.
  • We think big and we’re here to make an impact.
  • We operate with rigor - superb execution is a core skill.
  • We use polite and direct candor - ego has no place here.

Benefits We Offer

  • 401K plan
  • Free snacks from our robot chefs
  • Accelerated growth opportunities
  • Comprehensive benefits
  • Company equity
  • Flexible Vacation

The Role

In the Systems Engineer role you will be responsible for ensuring that all hardware and software subsystems integrate seamlessly into working products. You will own the electrical architecture and collaborate with hardware and software development teams to define engineering requirements and subsystem interfaces. You will help troubleshoot problems and define metrics and methods for evaluating and tracking system performance. You will also work closely with test engineers to ensure correct verification and validation of the systems.

The pay range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 + equity + benefits. As a pre-revenue company, equity is a key component of compensation. Our salary ranges are determined by data from our industry peers, the level of responsibility, job-related skills required, training, education, experience, and the current stage of Miso’s growth. The range posted for this role represents a range that Miso Robotics, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of existing and new hardware and software systems.
  • Drive system-level decisions regarding sophisticated hardware/software trade-offs.
  • Manage integration testing of the system as new hardware and software components come together.
  • Define engineering requirements and manage their traceability through the development process.
  • Provide frequent and clear communication to other teams, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct system level risk analysis (e.g., STPA, FMEA) to identify and manage risks during development.
  • Collaborate with Product managers to define validation metrics.
  • Work with hardware and software leads to define system performance metrics and methods for tracking them.
  • Analyze performance data, as well as system and software architecture to improve our existing systems.
  • May support in training new individuals on the team.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and Program managers to keep technical progress on track.
  • Be the technical owner of the electrical system to ensure that all of its components integrate functionally and efficiently into a working product.
  • Establish and manage an automated hardware-in-the-loop test framework

  • Demonstrated expertise in the development of new products including robotics, embedded systems, complex mechanical systems, and electronics.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in diverse testing methods (e.g., statistics, controlled experiments, field testing).
  • Experience working with Linux systems, either Python or C++, ROS, and SQL.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following: robotics, computer vision, sensors, actuators, cameras, embedded systems
  • Experience with electrical power systems and digital signals.

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering (Systems, Computer, Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Mechatronics), Computer Science or another relevant engineering/science field.
  • Experience with system-level risk and safety analysis (e.g., STPA, FMEA).

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing is a plus.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience interfacing between mechanical, electrical, software, cloud and security components in sophisticated systems.
  • Willingness to work hands on with hardware and software when needed to bring systems together.
