Job Description
What to Expect
This individual will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of a high-volume electronics assembly line wherein you will be responsible to drive supplier audit, DFM/DFA, Design, set up, and commissioning of the manufacturing line while working with CMs. Internally work cross-functionally with Engineering, Reliability and GSM to drive all deliverables for the launch of the product as well as support it in both sustaining phases as well as in service. The said engineer will own the quality of the product from start till the end of life. The Supplier Industrialization Engineer will ensure that all outside-sourced products are manufactured according to applicable codes and standards. Work includes qualifying suppliers, conducting source inspections, comparing specifications, talking to suppliers and company Engineers and Operations personnel, examining the suitability and availability of items for delivery, and coordinating the disposition of nonconforming items.
What You’ll Do
  • Provide leadership to the project team and work with team members to achieve common objectives
  • Prepare and present project milestone documents to the Engineering Milestone
  • Review, approve, and create improvement plans for product submission packages (PPAP, ISIR, FAI etc.)
  • Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at Suppliers. Lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality
  • Develop communication documents, presentations, and dashboards for communicating the project status, health, etc. to the leadership team
  • Continuously evaluates materials and the processes/systems to produce them to assure capability. Prioritizes and works with Supply Chain and Operations for continual improvement of raw materials process capability and consistency
  • Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and suppliers.
  • Provide input on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction
  • Administer/lead supplier quality/manufacturing audits
  • Provide leadership in meeting the customer and regulatory requirements with designs that have sustainable differentiation for minimal overall cost
  • Perform manufacturing process audits at external supplier locations; issue corrective actions to suppliers and following up to ensure their completion; performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Contributes, in the capacity of a team member, individually, or as a reference, to resolving materials quality issues and increasing manufacturing productivity
  • Collaborates with Tesla Design, Quality, and Manufacturing to determine the ideal performance specifications and supplier metrics.
  • Owns supplier quality, manufacturing process development and sustainable technical roadmap development for complex electronics module/assembly from start till end of life
  • Assures that customer complaints caused by products are addressed expeditiously and appropriate root cause corrective action are provided to the customer and implemented within the process. Contributes to maintaining strong positive working relationships with customers and suppliers
  • Use structured problem-solving methodologies to identify root cause. Offer conceptual solutions and work closely with the product development team to turn concepts into commercialized products
  • Perform supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations
  • Actively manage the project’s critical path. Perform a project risk assessment and recommend key experiments and/or simulation and predictive tools to mitigate areas of high potential risk
  • Drive the creation of technical specifications, design specifications, and system validation plans to meet the project deliverables.
  • Review Committee. Work with team members to ensure accurate completion of engineering, marketing, and factory documents
  • Guide suppliers in developing exceptionally robust processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high-quality products
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams.
  • Develop, manage, audit, improve and correct supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing and assembly techniques and quality control processes from the advanced development phase to mass production qualification
  • Assist procurement with supplier selection, development, and risk
What You’ll Bring
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and methods
  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Industrial, Quality, or related field of study preferred)
  • Ability to drive to true root cause and identify appropriate short and long-term countermeasures
  • Experience of personally driving DFM/DFA discussions with supplier and engineering teams to improve the design, manufacturability and feasible CTQs
  • Experience with reviewing, approving, and creating improvement plans for product submission packages (PPAP, ISIR, FAI etc.).
  • Strong people and communication skills, analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement efforts also essential, along with the ability to coach, and lead individuals and teams
  • Strong understanding of statistical process control techniques; process capability assessment (Cpk, Ppk), MSA
  • Understanding of quality tools and metrics
  • Good understanding/knowledge of GD&T and stack-up analysis
  • Working knowledge of SMT process and understanding of PCBAs and understanding of Firmware flashing and end-of-line/Functional testers
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and simply.
  • Proven practical experience of running and owning a high-volume manufacturing line as Manufacturing, Process or Quality Engineer
  • Comfortable with up to 40% travel
