WCC is located 35 miles west of Olympia, the state capital. WCC is the Reception and Diagnostic Center, a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male I/I's sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has eight living units and houses 1,500 I/I's. There are about 600 I/I's screened and assessed each month. WCC is also the major hub for transfer of I/I's to and from facilities throughout the state.
Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all I/I's can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society. This position supports DOC’s mission by maintaining essential life safety and security electronic systems that are critical to the safe and secure operation of the facility.
- Assist Information Technology staff in the integration/maintenance of security systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintains adequate inventory of mission critical parts and materials.
- Conducts tests and inspections of safety and security systems to insure functionality and adequacy.
- X-Ray package screening machines – located in several locations.
- Other tasks include:
- Installing cabling as per Telecommunications Distribution Installation Standards, (T.D.I.S.).
- Performs recommended Preventative Maintenance, (PMs), and recommends new PMs and or modifying existing PM schedules when necessary.
- Conducts tests and inspections of safety and security systems to insure functionality and adequacy.
- Prepares analysis, cost estimates, and reports for Management, (when requested).
- Bench top repairs and
- Maintains adequate inventory of mission critical parts and materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Public Address/Intercom Systems, PLC integrated, stand alone, and network – located in multiple locations.
- Two-way radio communications system - computer programmable, consisting of over 420 handheld radios, over 30 mobile radios, a main base station, multiple radio repeaters, and associated antenna systems.
- Video Surveillance systems, both digital and analog, computer based – located in all areas of the institution.
- Performs recommended Preventative Maintenance, (PMs), and recommends new PMs and or modifying existing PM schedules when necessary.
- Electrical locking systems, hardware & software – located in all areas of the institution.
- Perimeter intrusion/detection system, computer operated – installed on one mile of perimeter fence.
- Metal detectors, walk through & handheld, computer operated/programmed, used for security screening – located in multiple areas of the institution.
- Bench top repairs and
- Fire Alarm/Suppression systems, computer programmable – located in all areas of the facility.
- Prepares analysis, cost estimates, and reports for Management, (when requested).
- The ET4 is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of the following equipment and systems:
- Perimeter intrusion/detection system, computer operated – installed on one mile of perimeter fence.
- Electronic security door control system, touchscreen/PLC integrated - located in all areas of the institution.
- Two-way radio communications system - computer programmable, consisting of over 420 handheld radios, over 30 mobile radios, a main base station, multiple radio repeaters, and associated antenna systems.
- Fire Alarm/Suppression systems, computer programmable – located in all areas of the facility.
- Video Surveillance systems, both digital and analog, computer based – located in all areas of the institution.
- Electrical locking systems, hardware & software – located in all areas of the institution.

Required:
- Full time training in electrical engineering or electronics may be substituted, year for year, for a maximum of two years of the required experience, except for the one year or experience repairing and testing security and alarm surveillance equipment.
- Ability to: read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans and sketches; estimate materials and personnel needed to complete protect; supervise crew of electricians or inmates.
- Five years of experience installing, maintaining or repairing electrical and/or electronic equipment to include at least one year of experience repairing and testing security and alarm surveillance equipment.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Knowledge of: standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of electrical trade; electrical codes; safety precautions; and record keeping.
- Valid Driver's License
