Founded in 1948 by John Pridgeon and Donald Clay, we are one of the largest independent, value-added manufacturers and suppliers of automotive stamped and fine-blanked components in the United States.


Objective: Supervisors are responsible for shipping and receiving resources in an exemplary manner according to the company's quality policies.


Qualified Candidates Will Possess The Following Minimum Requirements


  • A Diploma or GED (Associate's Degree preferred)
  • Experience leading teams in an industrial environment
  • The ability to build effective work relationships
  • Experience with hiring process, performance appraisals, and disciplinary processes
  • Supervisors are responsible for owning a set of approved calipers and micrometers
  • Exceptional professional attributes that include self-motivation, dependability, and confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organizational and collaboration skills
  • An excellent work record, including attendance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • The ability to perform projects with a high degree of detail


Outstanding Candidates Will Possess The Following Desired Requirements


  • Experience problem-solving using 8D and 5 Why methods
  • Scheduling and workforce planning, especially with workforce fluctuations
  • Experience with quality metrics, manufacturing metrics, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing
  • Previous experience in the automotive industry

Logistics/Shipping/Receiving


Essential Functions:


  • Negotiate freight contracts/rates to balance service and cost parameters.
  • Participate in manpower planning and proposing solutions for manpower fluctuations.
  • Monitor and maintain shipping supplies for USDC production as well as outside vendors.
  • Monitor and control package engineering for all finished products.
  • Lead daily manpower planning to meet shipping/receiving requirements, scheduling overtime appropriately. Schedule, review and approve team members' schedules daily. Monitor and control overtime schedules and costs.
  • Ensure that First In First Out (FIFO) Process Standards are kept and followed
  • Overlap with other shifts daily to ensure shift to shift transition is managed efficiently.
  • Delegate contract work depending on best value, service, or availability of contractors/vendors.
  • Monitor production perishables such as cardboard inserts, rest paper, etc. and develop lean methods for replenishment.
  • Accurately and efficiently monitor UPS and Fed Ex shipments from USDC/Grand Rapids Plant.
  • Review equipment capacity on a monthly basis. Create contingency plans for key equipment.
  • Be responsive to calls on Company phone. If unavailable, call back timely.
  • Depict and document daily shipping requirements, monitor their status, and communicate information to customer service and appropriate department schedulers.
  • Analyze the performance of international custom brokers and upgrade brokers when needed.
  • Work with the quality team to communicate and facilitate quality standards, including facilitating external and internal customer concerns, making sure the rejected product is handled in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Know, communicate, and be responsible for the achievement of shipping key metrics, including on time delivery, premium freight, past due, inventory control and Kan Ban attainment.
  • Coordinate the movement of finished product to the Distribution Center and in-process product to and from outside suppliers.
  • Ensure all documentation (bar code labels, verification sheets, etc.) is timely, as well as accurately completed by the shipping team.
  • Coordinate expediting efforts, including air charter. Line up all expedited freight, outgoing from USDC/Grand Rapids Plant.
  • Ensure all documentation for shipping and receiving (NAFTA, commercial invoices, placards, etc.) is timely, as well as accurately completed by the production team.
  • Negotiate rates for import and export freight.
  • Responsible for tracking/controlling Supplies, OT, Scrap, Efficiency, and Inventory accuracy.


Quality/Problem-Solving/Safety


  • Use prescribed problem solving methods to lead the development of successful action plans that achieve permanent corrective actions and eliminate non-conformances. Initiate and participate in 8D or 5 Why teams depending on the customer requirements.
  • Maintain responsibility for process conformance results via weekly line side/layered audits.
  • Be knowledgeable of, and responsible for, the achievement of all quality-related goals, including PPAP, COQ, First Time Quality (FTQ), error-proofing, PPM, and adherence to control plans.
  • Ensure accident reports are turned in promptly and accurately when incidences occur.
  • Ensure the environment is safe/free of avoidable risk by reporting safety concerns immediately, enforcing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, as well as identifying potential safety issues, and taking appropriate action.
  • Accurately and efficiently develop and implements action plans to achieve metrics goals.
  • Drive, as well as participate in, company-wide lean initiatives and continuous improvement events, including continuous improvement activities and standardized work.


Personnel/Workforce Management


  • Complete and present annual performance appraisals for all direct report employees, outlining positive and negative performance, and documenting a plan of action for sub-par performers.
  • Drive team suggestions and implementation of ideas to increase efficiency, resulting in cost reductions. Active participation of your Team is required for Bright Ideas. Set expectations.
  • Participates with the Human Resources Department in the process of hiring and/or terminating employees as needed.
  • Schedule, review and approve team member's schedules daily in the system.
  • Provide consistent feedback to employees regarding job task performance and accomplishment of goals. Address unacceptable performance by administering discipline actions fairly using the company handbook.
  • Know where team members excel, as well as where they are challenged. Apply this information to attain team goals, as well as enhance the overall well-being of the team members.


Strategic Planning/Training/Interpersonal


  • Create policies, procedures, and instructions pertaining to packaging, distribution, and receiving activities that support overall Pridgeon & Clay goals. Include manufacturing business units with regard for structural and/or documentation changes.
  • Have an active role in the development of departmental standards and be responsible for implementation.
  • Participates in strategic planning for area of responsibility.
  • Oversee on the job training efforts, working with the Human Resources Department to ensure necessary training and documentation occurs.
  • Lead efforts to enhance team communication, including five minute stand up, shift overlap, and production meetings.
  • Notify teammates of technical and training opportunities for improvements.
  • Prepare/return documents, as well as supplies co-workers with needed information in a timely manner.
  • Enter/address employee suggestions via the Employee Suggestion Bright Ideas Program.
