Strategic Content Writer
Reporting directly to the Director, Principal Gifts Writer, the Strategic Content Writer will create written content that spans institutional and cross-discipline priorities. This person will be a gifted writer and thinker who has their finger on the pulse of Mount Sinai’s most compelling stories, provides written support for campaign initiatives spanning disease and basic research areas, and helps to identify and capture new cross-discipline opportunities that will eventually be used to bolster donor proposal documents. This includes aiding the Director, Principal Gifts Writer in creating narratives that weave together those research and clinical areas that encompass our most transformational ideas. The successful candidate will also aid in the development of comprehensive communications materials for principal gifts-level donors and prospects, as well as handle a variety of projects to support capital campaign fundraising.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Reviews and edits written materials to ensure quality and consistency.
- Works closely with the key Development stakeholders to provide content for a range of print and Web-based materials.
- Works closely with faculty, senior administrators, and Development colleagues to craft fundraising content for individuals.
- Aids in efforts in support of significant gifts of $5 million or more, working closely with the Director, Principal Gifts Writer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Contributes to cultivation, engagement, and stewardship strategies as appropriate.
- Works, if/as needed, with outside vendors–designers, other writers, printers–on the design and production of principal gift donor communications materials as well as additional institutional content.
- Conducts research and interviews faculty, staff, and others to compose appropriate and effective copy for fundraising materials and institutional content.
- Develops written language to be used in white papers, cover letters, and other communications for senior-level administrators.
- Ensures that language is consistent with messaging developed for Development and coordinates with the Stewardship/Donor Relations team when applicable.
Requirements:
- Advanced Computer Skills
- A minimum of 4 years of fundraising and proposal writing in a health care or other not-for-profit setting; experience with health care writing strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a concentration in either science or English, journalism or writing strongly preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
- Cover Letter is required
- Familiarity with Raisers Edge, Quark, InDesign are helpful at any level, but not required.

- Needs the ability to develop, analyze, and adjust systems to support institutional goals
- Must be able to think creatively and problem solve.
- Must be an organized and a responsive team player with a good sense of humor.
- Requires outstanding writing, editing, interview, and research skills
- Must be able to work collegially in a face-paced, deadline-driven environment, with insights into how best to support fundraising officers

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $79,720.00 - $119,580.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
