Our Publishing team is looking for you, a detail-oriented, results-driven Software Engineer who is ready for a challenge! You will be joining members of a motivated team, working closely with our business partners in supporting their initiatives within an agile environment.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a hands-on lead engineer in our journey. Your leadership will be essential to the success of our team. Your success in this role depends on your current strengths and your willingness to develop the skills connected to this job opportunity! We are looking for strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills accompanied with proven experience in delivering quality technical solutions.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using CloudFormation templates, Terraform, YAML files, build specifications, and Lambda functions to have a completely automated build and release process for all AWS resource infrastructure and code artifacts.
  • Provide technical leadership by enforcing the vision of the application architecture and safeguard the integrity of the application environment, in alliance with architects and other tech leads.
  • Controlling technical debt – work closely with Invest / Maintenance project teams to incorporate technical debt remediation into upcoming project scope.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to design and document automation solutions that align with the business needs and consistent with the architectural vision.
  • Own and drive adoption of DevOps / DevSecOps tools and best practices.
  • Identify, document, and communicate technical risks, issues, and alternative solutions.
  • Understand and implement the overall technical vision for projects, programs, or systems, keeping in mind cross-functional impacts, integration across the organization and architecture rationalization.
  • Develop code that conforms to The Hartford coding standards and industry best practices.
  • Promote operational excellence. Own and drive the triaging and service restoration of all high impact incidents to minimize the mean time to service restoration and impact to the business. Demonstrate end-to-end ownership.
  • Work closely as a member of a Scrum team, contributing towards the team’s goals of improving our Agile, delivery and Dev Ops practices, with the goal of shifting left and improving overall quality of our delivered code.
  • Identifying opportunities to reuse strategic components and reduce over-customization.
  • Ability to understand technology trade off risks and rewards for the best customer value delivery.
  • Work with Invest / Maintenance teams to drive the overall Container and Cloud Strategies.
  • Provide leadership in invest or maintenance initiatives review, input, recommend and ensure alignment to strategic.
  • Knowledgeable of Amazon Web Services including but not limited to Lambda, ECS, EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, SNS, SQS, EventBridge
  • Proactively identify, analyze/research and address technical issues/defects along with risks that could impact projects, enhancements or an applications stability and provide solutions to quickly resolve them.
Qualifications:
  • Experience with and understanding of serverless frameworks using AWS Lambda
  • Ability to work on Agile projects, possess an Agile mindset, prioritize the product backlog and provide Agile metrics.
  • Experience operating in a DevOps Environment
  • 5+ years relevant experience as an information technology professional in roles such as Software engineer, Technical lead and DevSecOps lead.
  • Experience in developing secure cloud-based applications
  • Ability to write code to automate manual processes.
  • Experience scripting (e.g. bash, Python) would be an added advantage
  • Experience with AWS Cloud experience in production environment
  • Practice of modern software Engineering, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build process, testing and releasing,
  • Experience with continuous delivery tools and methodologies like GitHub, Jenkins and Agile development
  • Experience with monitoring solutions like DynaTrace and CloudWatch
  • Experience designing, orchestrating and developing container-based solutions like Kubernetes
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification is a Plus.
  • Experience with Infrastructure code methodologies like Terraform and CloudFormation
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$111,920 - $167,880
