We develop and maintain the distributed systems that support Akamai's global network. The Metadata Transport team is responsible for the system that distributes configuration and control information throughout the Akamai platform. We develop features of this system, improving performance, and helping internal users leverage the system to build applications.

In this position, you will use creativity to solve complex problems. You will design, implement, and maintain our critical configuration distribution system. This system is used 24x7 across the world and is an essential component of Akamai's content delivery network.

As a Software Engineer Senior II, you will be responsible for:

• Working in all stages of software engineering, from concept and design through implementation, documentation, testing, and deployment
• Creating new features from scratch, enhancing existing features and optimizing existing functionality
• Contributing to projects that make our network more stable, faster, and more secure
• Cooperating with QA teams to come up with regression tests that cover new changes to our software
• Understanding complex system interactions in order to diagnose problems, design solutions, and identify opportunities for improvement

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have familiarity with open source components such as Zookeeper, Cassandra and PostgreSQL
• Show experience and working knowledge of Linux systems, bash shells, networking concepts
• Demonstrate high proficiency in Java and/or Python
• Have experience working with CI/CD pipelines
• Have 8 years of experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another related field
• Be well versed in the design and development of test automation
• Have good knowledge of common network protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP
• Have good knowledge of concepts and design principles of large-scale, high-performance distributed systems and microservices.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $134,466 - $214,782/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
