IFF Nutrition and Biosciences (at the Genencor Technology Center in Palo Alto) is currently seeking an outstanding protein chemist to join our Biochemistry team. IFF recreated itself in Feb 2021 with the acquisition of the Genencor biotechnology platform. This new company brings technical strengths in industrial biotechnology, chemical synthesis, and natural products to diverse applications in the food, personal care, agriculture, energy, and pharmaceutical sectors. Our work makes the everyday products that you use more sustainable.

We seek:

An excellent protein chemist/chemical biologist/enzymologist with strong training in basic science and excellent problem-solving skills who is eager to apply fundamental principles to develop real-world solutions.

Experience with organic chemistry, protein structure/function, enzyme mechanisms, enzyme kinetics, enzyme engineering and the ability to design efficient experiments and test hypothesis independently.

Ability to think creatively and work independently on versatile projects in multidisciplinary teams. We want a doer who will jump in, learn as necessary and propose solutions.

Team worker who can take responsibility, work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and have high ethical standards.

A careful scientist who documents their results and can mentor junior scientists in enzymology and protein chemistry best practices.

Job Requirements

• Hands-on experience characterizing enzymes or probing biological problems with quantitative chemistry approaches
• Demonstrated ability to design strategic experiments and interpret data quantitatively
• Strong chemical biology or chemistry background
• A PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field. A post-doctoral fellowship is preferred but not required.
• Exceptionally qualified BS/MS candidates with 8+/3+ years of experience will also be considered.

Compensation ($114,000 - 128,500) is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
