As a Life Safety Electrician, you will work on various systems such as fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control. The section is also responsible for maintaining the Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) around the airport. For this position we are looking for a Journeyman or Master Electrician with a heavy background in Life Safety Systems. Experience working in a multi-craft crew consisting of Electricians, Electronic Systems Technicians, Sprinkler Fitters, and HVAC Technicians is a plus. The Life Safety section is responsible for annual code required testing, repairing existing systems, and installing new systems airport wide.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Maintain Uninterrupted Power Supply equipment (UPS)
  • Maintain Emergency Generators
  • Prepare working sketches and works from blueprints, schematics, and written or verbal instructions
  • Performs electrical/construction maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures following standard practices of the electrical trade
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Estimate materials, labor, and equipment costs
  • Respond to Life Safety Systems electrical service or trouble calls, troubleshoots various problems/issues, and provides problem resolution
  • Maintain Lighting Inverters
  • Maintain records and prepares daily activity reports
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of skilled trades areas
  • Repair existing systems, installs new, or upgrades Life Safety systems
About You
We are looking for candidates with some or all the following skills and experience:
  • Basic computer navigation skills in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Experience with Uninterrupted Power Supply’s preferred
  • Customer Service and Communication skills, both written and oral
  • Extensive background in maintenance-related electrical work and problem-solving
  • Visual Color Discrimination: must be able to accurately match or detect differences among colors including shades of color and brightness
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong background in motor control logic
  • Technical Competence and Technical Problem Solving – Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies systems malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem
  • Experience working on fire alarm systems preferred

  • Licensure in another state with reciprocity may be accepted in place of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado licensure at the completion of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
  • Experience: one (1) year of journey-level electrician experience maintaining, repairing, and constructing electrical systems and equipment
  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
  • Requires a Journey Electrician's License issued by the State of Colorado or state-issued equivalent at the time of application
  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • By position, must obtain a Denver Fire Department Fire Alarm Installers License within six months of probation

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical may be required.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
