Job Description
The Hung Lab at the Broad Institute is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist I whose training and expertise spans multiple disciplines including immunology, genomics and metabolomics. The applicant will work closely with the Hung Lab – comprised of research associates, graduate students and senior research scientists, and be expected to demonstrate leadership in this group. He/she/they will be expected to communicate effectively, work well in a team setting, and possess a strong desire to contribute to translational research.
Responsibilities:
  • Participates in external activities: scientific conferences, technical meetings, invited symposia, etc.
  • May present results to group leadership
  • Receives general guidance on assigned work, instruction on assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions; assistance is provided for unusual problems and work is reviewed for mentoring of sound professional judgment
  • Must be able to interact professionally with all levels of staff • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • May perform other duties as assigned
  • May participate in the writing of grant proposals and patent applications
  • Must possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work with little supervision
  • Coordinate and manage projects comprising of cross-disciplinary team members
  • Initiates and directs research projects of diverse scope related to the study of M. tuberculosis, Gram-negative bacteria, and antibiotic resistance
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
  • Leads and carries out projects with supervision. Participates in writing papers and grant proposals, and gives presentations.
  • Contributes to scientific papers, reports, and presentations

  • May train, supervise or mentor junior members of a group
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills required
  • Identifies and resolves complex technical and methodological problems • Makes detailed observations, analyzes/interprets experimental data, and presents results
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of projects
  • Strong critical thinking, research, and analytical skills
Requirements:
  • PhD in chemistry, biology, or related field
  • 2+ years of related experience
