Sr Network Design Engineer-Osp

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

This position must have work experience in all technical aspects of designing OSP fiber and copper plant and work as a team member with OSP Design Engineers. The successful candidate is responsible for the field design and layout of OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications network to include aerial, buried and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/handhole, building entrance and riser facilities, utility, road and railroad crossings and other complex Right-of-Way (ROW) issues. Candidates should be familiar with engineering in the public ROW and on private property. Other responsibilities of this position include researching plats and ROW dimensions at various municipalities, contact existing gas and electric companies for verification of facilities and fully assess a cost-effective route. Aerial experience coordinating between telecommunications companies and electric companies is a requirement as well. Candidates must possess the ability to meet or exceed business unit goals, maintain quality standards, control expenses, and follow company and business unit directives and practices. We will consider out of area qualified candidates for a remote position.

• This position requires a lot of walking, and the ability to remove handhole and manhole lids.
• Good math and science skills.
• Familiar with City, County, State, Utility, and Railroad permit application process.
• Attend and document all project meetings with various agencies and Civil Design Firm.
• Ability to learn new technical systems and tools.
• Capable of managing their own workload and prioritizing multiple field engineering assignments completed on time and on budget.
• Ability to read and interpret road improvement, culvert installation and other types of Civil Drawings and Diagrams.
• Proficiency in a variety of CAD applications such as MicroStation/AutoCAD
• Ability to resolve problems following standard practices, using judgment within defined policies and guidelines.
• Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite of tools.
• Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledgeable in the use of mechanical and electronic tools for gathering field data.
• Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ESRI and shapefile functionality.
• Planning (establishment of feeder routes, FDA cabinet locations, distribution routes & boundaries).
• Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design).
• Coordinate any joint trench, boring and pole relocations/transfers with power companies, CATV, other Telcos, etc.
• Coordinate any required telecom easements.
• Analytical and detail-oriented.
• Experience using the following systems: Infinium, Varasset, M6 (MetaSolv special circuit order and design system), Control Desk (for fiber key sheets), FROGS (Ziply Fiber, GIS platform – OSP cable plant records and AutoCAD for developing work order specifications), DPI (Cable facility inventory and customer terminal record)s, and FTTP fiber records is strongly desired
• Identify and resolve all telecom facility conflicts (conflict mitigation) with most economical and feasible design. Present various design alternatives and costs.
• Read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for relocation projects.
• 3-5 years equivalent work experience in OSP Engineering.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
• Experience with ILEC LSO fiber entrance application, scheduling, and implementation processes.
• Self-motivated, and technically savvy.
• Design engineering (feeder and distribution layouts to be redlined on base maps showing all requirements associated with OSP distribution).
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the fiber-optic/telecommunications/telecom construction industry
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ OSP experience with road projects
