THE POSITION:

The Solution Design Engineer III will be responsible for providing distribution center solution designs from dock-to-dock while meeting our customers’ specific needs. The engineer will also be responsible for leading enterprise-wide projects and acting as subject matter expert in solution design, technology, and fulfillment processes across the company. Reporting to the Director of Industrial Engineering & Solution Design, the Solution Design Engineer III will work independently and cross functionally to ensure both Barrett Distribution Centers and the customer’s needs are being met, while maintaining high quality, cost effective, and timely services.

The compensation for this position ranges from $125K-$145K, depending on experience.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
As an Solution Design Engineer III at Barrett you can expect to perform duties such as:

• Work across multiple facilities and regions to execute design or process improvement projects
• Responsible for analyzing accounts for optimization in physical and systemic setup, process, and productivity with the goal of achieving best practice across all operational functional areas within the role’s areas of influence .
• Analyze data to define requirements, report on KPIs, and identify areas of improvement
• Present projects, solution designs, etc. to the executive team at Barrett as well as to our external customers. This includes using internal templates to build out proposals, and presenting them in a professional manner as the subject matter expert.
• Use of Inventory and Production Control techniques to evaluate storage and throughput strategies.
• Continually focus on the quality, business process improvement, and customer optimization during training and account analysis to ensure both Barrett Distribution Centers and the customer’s needs are being met
• Work with the Sales and Pricing teams to execute hi-level solution designs for customer RFPs, generally within a 1-2 week turnaround.
• Leverage all available software tools and lean process methodologies to ensure maximum effect of project
• Moderate travel required to other facilities (20% average, up to 50% at peak times)
• Use available data to display baseline metrics and establish goals and a ROI to determine viability of project
• Mentor more junior Industrial Engineers and create a plan of succession for the next IE III
• Responsible for evaluating the configuration of new and existing processes, physical setup, and use of appropriate material handling equipment for both standard and customer specific processes and layouts, throughout the company.
• Work independently and across departments while leading large-scale solution design projects and supporting those designs through Go-Live.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE:

• Must demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well under pressure and problem solve across a variety of business processes.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Solution Design Engineering, Systems Engineering, or similar required
• Experience with AutoCAD or other design software
• Strong working knowledge of 3PL, Supply Chain and Transportation, Synapse WMS system, and SharePoint preferred
• Thorough understanding of business processes and process improvement
• 5 years’ of solution design in 3PL, warehousing, or related experience required
• Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines. Strong emphasis on organizational skills and attention to detail.
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in 3PL, warehousing, production environment, or related experience required.
• Experience with work measurement tools strongly preferred
• 6 years’ experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing skills, preferred
• Highly Proficient with all Microsoft applications.
• Master’s Degree in IE, SE, or similar strongly preferred
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred).
• Ability to adjust training presentations to skill set of audience
