POSITION SUMMARY
The OSP Wire Center will perform all aspects of OSP engineering including but not limited to the engineering of line extensions for service order activity, pole replacements facility installations, and facility relocation, including both fiber and copper within their assigned wire centers.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working with multiple municipalities regarding their requirements and timeframes for various Outside Plant Construction Projects.
- OSP design and planning, construction, and the ability to perform a cost analysis to determine the most cost-effective and efficient manner of the placement of communications facilities.
- Duties will include order review, work order package preparation for the field survey, following up with the customer both internal (Lumen) and external (Lumen Customers), resolving issues in a timely fashion.
- Resolving potential conflicts with Lumen facilities during road projects.
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Design engineering (feeder and distribution layouts to be redlined on base maps showing all requirements
- Obtain records and maps required to complete design from Customer systems
- Analytical and detail-oriented
- Possesses a track record of increasing responsibility in each role
- Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Strong communication and computer skills
- Experience leading OSP/ISP engineering operations as a contractor to CenturyLink / Lumen
- Read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for relocation projects
- Ability to learn new technical systems and tools
- Proficiency in a variety of CAD applications and understanding of NDS, AutoCAD, Fireworks/Bidmaster, JDS, FORTE, WFMT, ARMOR, TIRKS, FACS
- 3+ years of experience as an engineer or engineering PM or OSP Field Engineer
- Strong understanding of Outside Plant Construction practices, methods, and procedures.
- Knowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design)
- Self-motivated, and technically savvy
- Telephony-standard symbols and procedures
- Strong working knowledge using cable drafting/design software
- Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience working as a Wire Center Engineer at CenturyLink / Lumen
- Knowledgeable in the use of mechanical and electronic tools for gathering field data
- Understanding of RUS codes
- Strong understanding of ROW, Public Utility Easements, and permitting requirements for assigned jurisdictions
