The Senior Associate Director of Admissions for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) assumes responsibility for senior year-round management activity within the Office of Admissions and partners with individuals throughout the division of Admissions, Financial Aid and Enrollment and across the university campus.
The Senior Associate Director position must work autonomously, with independent initiative and guidance, travel where needed, and be willing to work long hours during peak seasons. They must be a successful and proven manager with the ability train and direct other staff and students amongst multiple and competing priorities. The individual will supervise a team of professional admissions staff and student workers. The ideal appointee will have seven or more years of prior admission experience and developed skills in admission and related fields of marketing, community engagement/outreach, promotion and/or large-scale project management. A higher education admissions counseling background and prior experience working with Slate is preferred.
Successful Senior Associate Directors must demonstrate superior communication skills, judgment, data analysis, and management and leadership skills. While meeting enrollment and revenue goals, the Senior Associate Director will incorporate a global perspective and a commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education in a culturally diverse environment. Intercultural communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
- Supervises strategic partnerships and campaigns for underrepresented/underserved students. Leads the development of year-round activities on campus with community-based organizations, creates publications, web, and print advertising, and develops invitations and other materials in support of on- and off-campus annual events. Consults with the Director and Dean to develop strategy, messaging, and web content.
- Creates annual comprehensive diversity recruitment report for the Director and Dean that encapsulates all DEI admissions endeavors, to provide substantive narrative, data on recruitment initiatives, and strategic planning.
- Evaluates and modify practices based on historical and current data to ensure the best outcomes for underserved, underrepresented, non-traditional, and special populations.
- Crafts a strategy (interview events, college fairs, etc.) using high-level decision-making on how to best engage students across the regional territory to drive increased applications to help the university meet its enrollment goals.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other department senior leaders.
- Develops overall recruitment and enrollment strategies to ensure each enrolling class addresses national demographic shifts.
- Engages in recruitment travel to connect with students at college fairs, high school visits, special programs, groups, and organizational presentations throughout the calendar year, with special emphasis on fall and spring.
- Continues their growth and development in the Admissions domain through attendance at conferences, workshops, and campus events as a participant, panelist, presenter, or moderator; researches and implements best practices, remains current, and incorporates knowledge into practice.
- Serves as liaison between the Office of Admissions and key campus partners in areas such as the Office of Equity and Inclusion, and Office of Minority Student Affairs.
- Provides guidance to the Director, Dean, and all staff as needed to address diversity and developmental activities and collaborates as needed with the Director of Financial Aid and Enrollment stakeholders.
- Directs a team of on-campus travelers during fall and spring travel and assigns travelers to regional travel territories. Oversees the entire travel process for team members to provide a higher-level strategy regarding recruitment across the assigned regional territory. Approves or modify travel proposals from team members to ensure that regional programs remain aligned with and directly contribute to enrollment goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and eight years of progressive experience in higher education, school, community-based college, and independent school counseling, staff, or project management with an emphasis on the secondary school to college transition. As assigned, some specific programs may require a valid Motor Vehicle License.
