THE DIVISION
The Executive team coordinates the policy direction and management of the Department of City Planning. The team consists of the Office of the Director, Office of the Executive Director, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief of Staff, the General Counsel and Communications and Intergovernmental functions. The team is responsible for setting the vision of the Department and directing resources to accomplish our goals. This motivated team works closely together and across all planning and support divisions to support a diverse set of activities that advance our mission to plan for the City of New York.
THE ROLE
The Department is seeking a talented individual to serve as an Assistant to support the Director, who also serves as Chair of the City Planning Commission. This position is an integral part of City Planning’s Executive Office, and is critical to helping advance the Department’s ambitious planning agenda. The selected individual should have a strong background in planning, policy or related fields; demonstrate initiative, and the ability to work effectively with others, be able to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines, and have excellent writing skills.

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, this role will assist with a range of duties to support the Department’s agenda:
- Create briefing documents, fact sheets, and other materials to support the agency work program
- Work with Scheduling team to manage Chair’s calendar, meetings and schedule, and ensure appropriate briefing materials are prepared and follow up items are tracked as needed
- Assist the Chair and Chief of Staff in a wide range of assignments, including coordinating with City Hall on specified projects
- Work with Communications team to manage the Director’s speaking engagements and public appearances, including preparation of briefing materials, logistics and administration, speeches, talking points and presentations
- Perform other related duties, projects and tasks as needed
- Coordinate special projects and agency initiatives
Minimum Qual Requirements
Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. NYC Department of City Planning does not provide sponsorship for international employees. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they meet all qualifying requirements for this position, at the time of application.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one – two years of full-time experience in related fields

Preferred Skills
- Excellent writing, research, analytical and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a timely manner
- Experience conducting studies, writing reports and technical memos and conducting presentations.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently, or in a team structure to complete tasks in a timely fashion under limited supervision and monitor a work program
