Software Developer Intern Jobs

We’re hiring an intern to join our growing engineering team! The internship will run for three months starting in Summer 2023, and will feature wonderful mentorship, meaningful work, and tons of opportunities to level up as a software developer.

We’re a fast-growing startup with a diverse, close-knit team that prizes creativity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. At the end of the internship, there is a possibility for the intern to stay on as a full-time, permanent dev at BackerKit. While our office is in San Francisco, this position is remote-friendly to anyone in the US.

What working at BackerKit will look like:

• You will be a full member of our development team, working on production code and solving real customer problems from the very beginning of your internship — no make-work here!
• You’ll pair program with all the members of the development team from 9am-5pm Pacific time, Monday through Friday, for three months. We spend our pairing time very focused on coding, so we make sure to take frequent breaks throughout the day and a full hour for lunch
• You’ll participate in the agile processes we follow to build our product, and learn the whys along with the hows of our process
• You’ll ask tons of questions as you learn our technical stack and domain, and give regular feedback to your mentor about how we’re doing to help you learn
• You will provide product input. We are a small team that moves fast, so it is important that you speak your mind and give feedback on how we can make things better/faster/stronger
• You will help the team release early and often. We deploy at least once a day, frequently more often than that

What we're looking for in an intern:

• You have unbridled enthusiasm for learning, a willingness to admit what you don’t know, and a knack for asking great questions
• You have good debugging skills: you’re able to identify and test your assumptions when the code is not behaving as expected
• You’ve got experience working with HTML and CSS
• You want to hone your test-driven development (TDD) skills (it’s our primary mode of coding) and have some experience writing automated tests
• You have great communication skills and excitement for pair programming. We pair close to 100% of the time, and love pairing for the opportunity to help each other level up every day
• You’re excited about Ruby on Rails, and feel comfortable using Ruby! We value solving problems for our customers over trying out new technologies in production

The base salary for this role is targeted at $70,000-$75,000/year for Denver and most remote locations, and $80,000-$85,000/year for San Francisco, Seattle, and New York City. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed above and are determined by various factors including but not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and geographic location.
