Duties
DUTIES INCLUDE: This position is for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Community Based Outpatient Clinics which are a part of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. There are a total of 4 vacancies with one (1) vacancy at the Saint Augustine VA Outpatient Clinic location, one (1) vacancy at The Villages Outpatient Clinic, one (1) vacancy at the Middleburg VA Outpatient Clinic and one (1) vacancy at the Valdosta VA Outpatient Clinic location. This position covers primary/specialty care teams. The social worker will directly report to the Supervisory Social Worker or designee. The Social Work Chief has clinical professional oversight responsibility. The social worker will serve as an interdisciplinary team member and provide services for Veterans with primary care and/or specialty care needs. The social work must use a high level of skill in assessing and treating complex psychosocial needs of Veterans and their family members/caregivers, often during times when the Veteran/family members/caregivers are experiencing crisis. The social worker will exercise mature professional judgment and use a wide range of clinical skills in independently providing clinical psychosocial, case management, and mental health services to Veterans and their family members/caregivers. The social worker requires knowledge of a broad range of psychosocial, medical, and mental health issues. The social worker may provide psychosocial education, group and individual counseling,/psychotherapy appropriate to level of licensure. The social worker will coordinate care, develop and use VA and community resources to facilitate referrals, develop and implement treatment plans and provide accurate information to patients, family, staff, and other internal and external customers in a timely manner. The position works closely with an interdisciplinary team; therefore, it is important that the social worker is a team player. The social worker will provide coverage as needed for co-workers, which may include social work coverage in other parts of the System. The social worker will comply with all policies/regulations of the Department of Veterans Affairs. to include VISN, office, and local facility. The social worker will comply with all applicable city, county, and states laws and regulations . The social worker will attend and participate in administrative and clinical staff meetings. The social worker may also participate in the student training program as approved by supervisor, as well as, serve on facility, VISN, and national committees and workgroups.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
- Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to dependently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.
- English Language Proficiency Requirement: Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.
- Experience and Licensure: Appointment to the GS-11 grade level requires completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. OR
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
- (e) Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
- (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.
- (c) Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e. acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan.
- (b) Skill in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds.
- (d) Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
Preferred Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a mental health and/or medical setting.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-11.
