Description


Working within an interdisciplinary team, Primary Counselors act as key player in a patient’s recovery journey, helping them to remove barriers that prevent them from finding a path leading to healing and freedom. Pimary Counselors treat patients individually, addressing the particular clinical needs of each while integrating services provided by other members of the treatment team. In addition to conducting assessments and creating treatment plans. Primary Counselors facilitate individual and group therapy, teach psychoeducational material, and work with patients’ families all to support an integrated approach to co-occurring disorder treatment.


Summary/Objective


The principal actor in the delivery of clinical services, reporting directly to the Executive Director.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Is responsible for general documentation of client records on caseload.
  • Protects client's rights.
  • Ensures that all records are accurate and timely per OBH policies.
  • Completes duties in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinates alcohol and drug abuse treatment services with the Clinical Director or designee.
  • Reports all alleged incidents of abuse or neglect under all state standards and accrediting bodies.
  • Coordinates with the Clinical Director to ensure consistency of treatment.
  • Ensures that all relevant information is provided to the client, the parents or the managing conservator of the client regularly and at least weekly.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Be responsible for the development of client treatment plans.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions daily.
  • Uphold all Origins Behavioral HealthCare Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled and as needed.
  • Initiates social service assessments of clients, including gathering social histories and other required treatment documentation.
  • Directs counseling activities under directions from the Clinical Director or designee.
  • Conducts assessments.
  • Maintain client/potential client confidentiality per Origins’ Policy.
  • Conducts intakes and screenings on potential clients.
  • Is a contributing member of the treatment team.
  • Ensures that all records are available for all state and accrediting bodies' staff inspection.
  • Response to client case management issues as they may relate to the delivery of substance abuse treatment.
  • Facilitates groups and lectures for clients.


Supervisory Responsibility


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment


This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


Requirements


Education/Experience/Qualifications:


  • Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Qualified Credentialed Counselor (LCDC, LPC, LCSW) and be in good standing or deemed capable of delivering counseling services by Clinical Leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years experience and/or State Certification required.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in a substance abuse treatment facility is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred; or
  • Work experience in the 12-step emersion program is preferred.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Must possess a high degree of organizational skills.
  • Knowledge, experience, and competence in adult treatment, adult co-morbid complications, and family systems theory.
  • Must be computer literate and be familiar with most Microsoft products and network components.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with and demonstrate knowledge of the principles and programs of the various 12-step fellowships.
  • Must have fluid communication skills that foster teamwork and high morale.


Competence/Measurements


  • Compliance with all state standards and accrediting bodies – documentation.
  • Family, referral, and patient satisfaction – documentation/interviews.
  • Assure that all quality indicators are met – monthly documentation.
  • Compliance with the strategic plan set forth – documentation/observation.
