Job Description

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive and complex risk assessments, clinical interviews, and psychosocial assessment of children and adults.
  • Provide training on Family Advocacy Program issues to various personnel.
  • Provide therapeutic treatment to victims, offenders and Family members of those involved in domestic violence or child abuse or neglect.
  • Obtain relevant data from various sources to compile information and present for a determination of abuse or neglect to the Family Advocacy Program Case Review Committee.
  • Work independently as a licensed clinical social worker to carry out the clinical social work component of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP).
  • Use automated systems to enter, maintain and retrieve data.
  • Use paper-based forms and automated systems to prepare forms and documents.
  • Perform crisis intervention services and appropriate triage to assist in the protection and safety of victims and Families.
  • Make treatment recommendations to the multi-disciplinary Family Advocacy Program Case Review Committee team.

  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires the successful completion of a criminal history background check.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position may require the incumbent to testify before agencies and/or in court.
  • Incumbent is subject to Central Registry Check (Department of Defense Child and Domestic Abuse reporting system).
  • The position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work after hours on call.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. A candidate tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position requires screening for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Family Advocacy):

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package.)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: In a family advocacy environment: (1) assessing incidents of abuse; (2) providing counseling to abusers and/or victims; and (3) developing treatment and/or safety plans for clients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-11).
Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires 2 years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse.
