Position Summary
Missions Inc. Programs is looking for applicants for on call Children’s Advocates at its Home Free shelter for women, identifying individuals and their children, fleeing domestic abuse. Home Free is a 30-bed shelter that provides immediate safety, advocacy, support, and information for women and children who have had to flee their homes due to domestic violence. Regularly operating at over 100% capacity, the program has 24-hour staffing, provides three meals daily, and operates a children’s program, including childcare.
This position is responsible for providing childcare for children ages new born to seventeen years. It will include coordinating a variety of activities; including meeting with moms one on one, leading parenting groups, leading children’s support groups, public speaking with schools or youth groups, recreational outings, transportation and one on one time with the children as well as any tasks needed to maintain the safety of the play areas and outside of the shelter. This position reports to the Program Director.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide childcare for residents in the shelter
- Coordinate recreational outings
- Provide transportation for children’s needs
- Maintain the safety of the play area and outdoor spaces.
- Assess and coordinate the needs of families in the shelter.
- Facilitate children’s and parenting support groups
- Public speaking at schools or other youth-centered organizations.
Experience and Qualifications
- Must work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to women and children experiencing domestic violence;
- Ability to take direction and follow through;
- Positive team player;
- Able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Must have previous experience working with children.
- Have a valid MN Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to Missions Inc. insurance company.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
Compensation
The hourly rate is $16.83 – $18.27 for full and part-time staff positions. We offer .40 cents differential pay for overnight and .50 cents for weekend shifts.
Benefits include medical, dental, HSA (for full-time only) and basic life, voluntary life, short and long-term disability insurance, 403b retirement plan, PTO (paid time off) bank, and ten paid holidays for full and part-time employees.
