Job Description
Description Summary

Bring local programs, initiatives, and institutions together to connect employers and workplace partners, schools and training organizations, social services and community organizations, and families to serve the needs of young people as they prepare for life as adults by making a distinct connection between education and training, and the employment opportunities within the local communities. Opportunities may include career exploration activities such as job shadows, work-site tours, and workplace experiences such as internships and apprenticeships.

This position is grant funded and subject to grant award and guidelines.

Examples of Duties

Constant (67-100%)

  • Engage in activities with partners including Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • Work with area high schools to promote career counseling and building awareness or employment opportunities, apprenticeship opportunities and educational requirements.
  • Coordinate and develop relationships with regional high schools, businesses and Iowa Central’s Director of Economic Development to assess work-based learning opportunities and identify key contacts.
  • Assist with the placement and evaluation of students in Practicum and Job settings.
  • Provide leadership and support for the work-based-learning network.
  • Promote on campus visits by high school faculty and staff, to build relationship and understanding of the secondary/post-secondary cooperation and the career and technical degree programs offered by Iowa Central.
  • Coordinate with local AEA, STEM Hub and school districts to assess work-based-learning needs and help develop school district career plans which enhance the work-based-learning network and complement each entities current and future work plans.
  • Assist high schools with student job shadows, student internships, worksite tours, interactive speakers, teacher professional development, and concurrent enrollment collaboration.
  • Supervise and oversee the partnership and grant with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • Assist high schools with the development and relationship building of job shadow placement.
  • Work directly with business and industry in relation to student placement and employment needs in regard to future employment opportunities and required skill sets.
  • Travel to other centers or off-campus facilities and business and industries.
  • Represent the college at high schools, contracted classes, and/or college fairs.
Frequent (34-67%)
  • Develop quality standards and continuously improve practices to increase impact on youth.
  • Refer students to appropriate departments for proper course or program selection.
  • Attend meetings to represent the college.
Occasional (10-33%)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required. The ability to display strengths in communication, documentation, and meeting deadlines. Past experience in instruction, advising, or experience being in business and industry or working with business and industry partners is preferred.

GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves constant (67-100%); talking to or listening to persons over the phone, in person, and observing student activities within the classroom; frequent (34-66%); sitting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, grasping and lifting up to 25 pounds. Writing on board or overhead; using instructional aids such as overhead/computer projectors, desktop/laptop computers; carrying classroom materials and walking between buildings under icy, wet or cold conditions to get to class and/or meetings; occasional (10-33%); travel to other centers or off-campus facilities to lead presentations or attend meetings.
