SOCIAL MEDIA& DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT INTERN


THE INTERNSHIP


StoryCorps' Marketing& Communications (M&C) Department is a fast-paced, creative, and highly collaborative team that creates messaging and promotes StoryCorps' mission, content, programs, products, and services via digital and traditional channels. The objectives of the M&C Department are to tell the story of StoryCorps, to advance our mission as an organization that champions empathy, compassion and listening, to share our content with the world, to drive audience growth and engagement and to support the organization in achieving its contributed and earned revenue goals.


As the Social Media and Engagement Intern, you will support the M&C team’s efforts in Engagement/Community Management, Research& Strategy, and Content, UX, and Design (Social Media) across all our channels.


Throughout the course of the internship, you can expect to become familiar with how to grow social media communities and best practices behind engaging with audiences. You will have the opportunity to join departmental meetings and learn how to best support various programs and departments at StoryCorps in terms of utilizing Social Media channels and mediums. You will also be involved in key efforts around trends, metrics/data, planning, execution, copywriting and social media marketing strategies that are crucial to forming our brand development and awareness.


All StoryCorps interns are paid $15 per hour, and are expected to work between14 and 20 hours per week.The Fall 2023 StoryCorps Internship Session runs from September 18th- December 15th, 2023. The internship will beHybrid (80 Hanson Place, Brooklyn, NY and Remote).

What You’ll Do


  • Write copy and schedule posts for StoryCorps’ Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok platforms
  • Ideate creative campaigns that will increase awareness and engagement.
  • Research and execute best content strategy practices on popular platforms, such as TikTok.
  • Monitor community engagement and audience behavior.
  • Explore ways to improve the presentation and formatting of StoryCorps’ content.
  • Learn StoryCorps’ writing style, while also experimenting with creative ways to adapt social media language.
  • Research and execute best practices for Facebook and Instagram Reels.
  • Post to Instagram Stories daily.
  • Research best hashtag practices for StoryCorps content on each platform.
  • Support with creating guidelines for engagement.
  • Support social media needs for the following programs:One Small Step,Military Voices Initiative,Mobile Tour,Atlanta Booth
  • Identify platform features that can be utilized to improve user experience on StoryCorps’ profiles.

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in time-sensitive situations; aptitude to coordinate multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

  • You are intellectually curious and looking for a comprehensive understanding of organizational communications.
  • You are interested in oral history and the compassion that is possible through listening to others share their personal stories.
  • You are familiar with best practices on social media platforms.
  • Strong passion for social media, digital marketing, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends and platforms.
