The Smithsonian Media Marketing Internship is designed to provide a meaningful, hands-on learning experience. This virtual Internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about all aspects of the media spectrum while making meaningful contributions to marketing, data and analytics, sales projects as well as for building writing, personal, organizational and project management skills. During this internship you will assist in the planning and analysis of Smithsonian Media’s digital and social media sales offerings!
Through weekly virtual meetings with the Mentor, the Digital team and Ad Sales team, the Intern will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the marketing process by assisting with projects in content marketing planning and ad sales, while gaining valuable real-world experience. The Intern will be mentored by the Digital Strategy Director and Social Media Manager, who will arrange for bi-monthly development meetings to evaluate the skills learned and experiences of the internship, reflect on how they apply to the Intern’s education/career goals, and chart a course for the coming months.
The Intern will:
- Learn about social media marketing by assisting with social media, digital analytics, and the website as it relates to Smithsonian Media advertising campaigns
- Learn how to increase engagement/retention and overall ad revenue through data-informed digital marketing tactics
- Learn other aspects of sales and marketing by assisting with ad hoc projects with the Digital team
- Develop research and communication skills by corresponding with various teams throughout Smithsonian Media, including Ad Sales, Digital, Print, and Consumer Marketing
The intern candidate who would most benefit from this experience will be thoughtful, self-motivated, and academically inclined, with great attention to detail and the ability to work successfully as part of a team. Ideally, we’re looking for excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a professional and courteous manner, and prefer a candidate who is currently enrolled or has recently completed a BA/BS degree program. Ideally, the candidate would also have an interest in digital media and social media marketing.
Smithsonian Media works closely with all media outlets includingSmithsonianMagazine and Smithsonian.com to promote the Smithsonian Institution's unparalleled authority in the fields of history, science, technology, and art. The intern will need to have the capability to participate in the internship remotely, including tech equipment and internet.
