Social Media Specialist (Temporary Part-Time) - Remote
Knowable Magazine, an award-winning online publication dedicated to exploring science research through a journalistic lens, is seeking a part-time temporary Social Media Specialist to help advance the audience development efforts of Knowable Magazine through the creation and programming of digital content on various social media platforms. You will focus on opportunities to attract new readers to and raise awareness of Knowable Magazine content and the work of related Annual Reviews authors and assist the Audience and Outreach Strategy Manager in evaluating the success of various digital campaigns and projects.
The hours of work will be up to 8 hours per week, and we will consider this role as a remote position for an exceptional candidate who resides in one of the following states: CA, CO, DC, GA, HI, IL, IN, MA, MN, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, WA, WI.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Produces and programs weekly content for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Creates GIFs.
- Programs digital content and other paid marketing content.
- Reports on monthly performance of content and followers on social media platforms to Knowable team.
- Coordinates weekly social media content plan with supervisor.
- Adapts and designs original images to tell visual stories on various channels.
- Identifies stories around which to produce new social media content and the most appropriate form for that content.
- Assists with monitoring comments on various platforms.
- Edits sharable, compelling video snippets from longer video content, including repurposing clips from online events.
Qualified candidates must have:
- Willingness to proactively and quickly solve problems
- Experience with graphic design, video editing, audio editing and image production
- Attention to detail and good follow-through on multi-step projects and strong organizational skills with excellent time management
- Strong sense of visual storytelling, including color, typography, and layout concepts
- Strong editing skills
- Proficiency with design programs (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc), Buffer or other social media programming software, and Microsoft office
- Ability to work well independently
- Interest in and enthusiasm for science journalism
- Willingness and ability to learn AirTable
- Understanding of journalistic processes, procedures and norms for social media content
- Confident and comfortable in working through a fluid and continually evolving environment with changing priorities and deadlines
- A Bachelor’s degree (BS) from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience in journalism, communications, content development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to collaborate professionally with colleagues and give and receive constructive feedback
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a related role, including experience with social media in a journalistic setting and understanding of best practices and emerging opportunities with various social media channels

Pay Scale: Following is the wage range that Annual Reviews expects to pay for this position:
For the California counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, and Contra Costa and New York City:
- Maximum of $39 per hour
- Minimum of $35 per hour
For the California counties of San Diego, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, San Joaquin, Placer, and El Dorado; the Washington counties of Pierce and King; and Denver, CO and Boulder, CO:
- Maximum of $35.10 per hour
- Minimum of $31.50 per hour
For the California counties of Stanislaus, and Fresno, and all other California counties not mentioned above, all other Washington counties not mentioned above, and anywhere else in Colorado (other than the cities of Denver and Boulder):
- Minimum of $28.70 per hour
- Maximum of $31.98 per hour
Actual compensation for the above locations in CA, WA, CO and New York City or in the states of OR, DC, GA, HI, IL, IN, MN, MA, NC, NY, PA, OH, or WI will be determined by several factors including but not limited to: specific home office geographic location, level of experience, and demonstrated knowledge and skills.
