We are seeking a professional, caring Social Caseworker for our Youth In Transition unit of Children and Family Services. The successful candidate will primarily provide case management and supervision of adolescents in out-of-home care, emancipating youth, youth with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, teen parents, and delinquent youth.

Candidate will also function as a lead/specialist by providing leadership to the team in close partnership with and in the absence of the Supervisor. They will train, mentor, support, troubleshoot, and oversee Youth In Transition members; will assist with the assignment of tasks to co-workers with any/all ongoing projects, and will assist with any newly developed services that are implemented by our Team.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Ensures appropriate treatment needs are being met on a continual basis by various service providers.
  • Works professionally with collateral agencies, treatment providers, placement providers, juvenile probation, schools, and courts to ensure the needs of the youth/families are being met.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Documents case activities while complying with all federal and state mandates and guidelines.
  • Carries a caseload of difficult/complex cases involving adolescents with various issues.
  • Prepares court reports, attends court hearings, testifies in court hearings and proceedings, and consults with attorneys regarding legal aspects of cases.
  • Develops comprehensive and appropriate treatment plans for clients that address therapeutic needs.
  • Provides face-to-face contacts with clients as required by regulatory standards and agency policy (may sometimes include in-state and/or out-of-state travel).
  • Coordinates and maintains professional communication with collateral agencies.
  • Completes thorough assessments of family and youth for individual/community risk, services, and resources.
  • Participates with interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration on a regular basis.
  • Works to increase permanent connections and legal permanence for youth.
  • Acts as a resource or expert in program area, providing technical guidance to less experienced staff

  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with various community resources.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, family dynamics, child abuse and neglect dynamics, intellectually developmentally disabled youth, youth cultures, crisis intervention, mental health, substance abuse issues, and independent living skills needed to emancipate.
  • Skills and sensitivity in working with issues of clients from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of various computer systems to complete mandated case management reports and documentation (i.e.: Trails, Records Management, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work cohesively with other members of a team.

More Qualifications for Success

  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the human behavioral science fields.
  • Possession of a Colorado Driver's License and proof of automotive insurance.
  • Education and Training:
    • Bachelor's Degree in one of the human behavioral science fields.
    • An MSW may substitute for 2 years of the required experience.
    • Proof of education, (degree or transcripts,) and license (if candidate has received one) are required.
  • Proof of education, (degree or transcripts,) and license (if candidate has received one) are required.
  • Other: Must utilize a personal vehicle to get to many appointments in the local community and surrounding areas within Colorado.
  • License or Certificate:
    • Colorado Child Welfare Caseworker certification required, and must be completed within 3 months of employment, through the Colorado Training Academy (State Child Welfare). Certification through another State will require proof of completion, and may substitute for all or part of the training required by Colorado.
    • Possession of a Colorado Driver's License and proof of automotive insurance.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of full time professional social casework experience, acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency, in an area appropriate to the position.
  • Colorado Child Welfare Caseworker certification required, and must be completed within 3 months of employment, through the Colorado Training Academy (State Child Welfare). Certification through another State will require proof of completion, and may substitute for all or part of the training required by Colorado.
  • An MSW may substitute for 2 years of the required experience.
