Description
We are looking for an experienced leader responsible for the profit and growth of the Midsize Construction segment. Reporting to the President of Middle Market, the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of Midsize Construction leads a national underwriting organization of leaders and production underwriters that specialize in construction risks.
The CUO is responsible for underwriting strategy, agent/broker partnerships, portfolio management, and leading a high performing team. Sets and executes the midsize construction strategy in alignment with the Middle Market strategy to attain profit, quality, growth, and operational objectives. Leads, engages, and inspires a diverse and inclusive team. Builds highly effective managers and underwriters with strong construction expertise and confidence executing deals.
- Enhances and maintains Liberty presence with the brokerage community by solidifying key relationships.
- Ensure excellence in underwriting process, including production, pricing, quality, and risk selection.
- Lead the organization with focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, top talent attraction, engagement, and retention.
- Accountable for the profit, growth, and overall results of the Midsize Construction segment.
- Is visible in the market to develop and enhance Liberty’s presence with the brokerage community and ensures the organization is easy to do business with.
- Drives the development of challenging business plans reflective of the competitive environment. Monitors results and adjusts strategies and tactics to maximize profit while balancing growth.
- Communicate, monitor, and execute strategy throughout segment. Ensure strategic alignment with other areas within Middle Market and Global Risk Solutions North America.
- Other capabilities required include openness to new experiences, calmness under pressure, conscientiousness and humility as normally acquired through an advanced degree or equivalent training.
- Knowledge of commercial property & casualty products; insurance operations; finance and actuarial concepts; regulatory environment; reinsurance; account management; underwriting; producer management; and product development.
- Experience managing a significant P&L.
- Skills required include analyzing and problem solving; decision making, building relationships; courage; innovation; communicating effectively, engaging and motivating people; negotiation; influencing others; focusing on service; managing and improving processes; executing well; planning and organizing work.
- Experience leading a production underwriting organization.
- Known expert in construction underwriting.
