The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (100% FTE) Program Financial Analyst.
PURPOSE:
Under the general direction of the University of Washington School of Nursing (UW SoN) Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for high-level financial data management and analysis. The senior financial analyst performs business analysis of the key metrics and drivers of the School and produces data that can be used to make strategic and operational recommendations and decisions. This position is an integral part of the COO's Finance & Administration Team and must be adaptable, flexible, and able to manage a high volume of work. A team-oriented approach is essential, coupled with a proactive and positive business approach focused on meeting current and future needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Analytics:
  • Develop systems and tools to collect and analyze financial, accounting, and academic information, including computer models, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Develop and implement evaluation methodologies providing decision support to UW SoN leadership in the financial reporting and risk management functions.
  • key indicators within the UW SoN, with particular attention to metrics and balance scorecard measures.
  • Drive the School of Nursing metrics and reporting processes, including creating, monitoring, and coordinating metrics using the Balanced Scorecard approach to monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics.
  • Statistical and data analysis of academic program financial-related information.
  • Analyze financial, accounting, and academic information; design and develop computer models, databases, and spreadsheets; prepare capital and operating budget reports, compelling narrative and analytical reports using aesthetic design layouts for presentation and distribution to internal units within the School, external University of Washington departments, outside organizations, and the public.

  • Ability to adapt to fundamental changes to UW's financial data structure.
  • Requires the ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with the Dean, assistant/associate dean, and director-level positions across the School of Nursing
  • Requires deep knowledge of UW funding sources to analyze total sources and uses of funds at the school level and at a more granular unit/department level.
  • Must be able to understand varying operational models quickly and apply financial analysis expertise to assist in decision-making.
  • Use UW administrative system tools, including accounting systems, HR systems, central office databases, cubes, and the data warehouse, to extract and download system data for analysis.
    Budgeting, Forecasting & Process Improvement

  • Manage the annual budget input data for all units/departments within the School of Nursing. Update and maintain budgeting tools and extract data from systems to provide a basis for budget decisions.
  • Assist with budget planning forecasts for the annual Provost budget process.
  • Analyze findings, identify improvement areas, and pursue more efficient methods and processes.

  • Collaborate with other UW SoN units to establish best practices, formulate policies, and strengthen client relationships, recognizing the importance of functioning as a unified team.
  • Provide policy and process recommendations for improvements throughout the School of Nursing.
  • Apply knowledge of the University of Washington and UW SoN to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization continually; furnish decision-makers with well-researched solutions to continual and non-recurring challenges facing the organization.
  • Oversee strategic gift review and endowment income utilization.

  • Perform other duties as required to support the School's ongoing mission and strategic plans.

    Conditions of Employment:
  • Typically, a 40-hour, 5-days per week position in a standard office environment. This position is overtime-exempt.
  • To effectively complete timeline-driven projects and deadlines, flexibility in schedule and additional hours beyond standard office hours may often be required.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
  • Six-eight years in finance and/or accounting with three-five years of analyst experience
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software suite with a strong background in Excel.
  • Strong data mining skills with experience using ERPs/enterprise-wide data systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
