Financial Accounting has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Reporting Analyst.
POSITION PURPOSE
UW Finance encompasses the major central financial functions for the University of Washington, including Enterprise Services, Financial Accounting, Sponsored Financial Programs, Student Financial Services, and Treasury. The Finance Accounting team reports to the VP of UW Finance and is responsible for providing UW’s consolidated annual financial reporting and other enterprise-critical accounting operations management for the University.
The Financial Reporting Analyst position is responsible for supporting the timely and accurate preparation of the new monthly and annual University-wide financial statements, preparing journal entries, supporting schedules, and footnote disclosures for the UW's Financial Report prepared according to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), as well as the State of WA State Administrative and Accounting Manual (SAAM) utilizing the UW’s Workday Enterprise accounting system. Following UW’s financial transformation project, the UW will start to report on a monthly cycle starting July 2023 using the Workday system. This new position will support this new reporting cycle frequency. In addition, this role will be responsible to prepare supporting schedules and disclosures for the Office of Financial Management's (OFM) Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Serves as a primary resource in assisting the UW in the implementation of its new Workday financial reporting system. This will include transitioning the UW from a cash basis to an accrual basis system and related business processes.
The Financial Reporting Analyst will participate in the analysis of financial results, as well as the improvement of UW Workday accounting processes. They will work independently and in partnership with the Manager of Financial Reporting and the Associate Controller, as well as in close collaboration with process partners across campus.
This position will play a role in transitioning the accounting and reporting processes owned by the Financial Reporting group as they are impacted by the implementation of UW's Workday ERP system (scheduled to go live July 2023). The Workday Finance Transformation project will result in the formation of a new formal "customer service" (accounting and Workday system support) function residing in the Financial Reporting group. This position will provide customer support activities as part of the new shared environment operational model ensuring service level agreement metrics are met.

Position Complexities
This position requires technical accounting and analysis skill set in order to successfully comprehend and execute accounting transactions and to perform analysis on the data underlying financial statement results.
This position requires the ability to communicate effectively to explain Workday accounting transactions and issues. The position coordinates with external independent and state auditors to provide supporting documentation and explanation of results. The position also communicates with departments across the University regarding accounting issues and guidance, and updates and changes to the accounting processes.

This position will share the responsibility of ensuring customer service support activities meet expectations, and defined service level agreement metrics are met.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Management and Analytics
Responsible for the new Enterprise level and Balancing Unit level monthly and quarterly financial reporting required by the implementation of the Workday financial reporting system. The position will be responsible for assisting the team in the development and execution of these regular closing periods to generate Workday financial reporting.
Campus Support
With the implementation of Workday, the UW will begin doing accrual accounting at the major business unit level. The position will assist in supporting accounting teams across UW in successfully implementing and maintaining the new accounting system.
Process Improvement and other projects
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field and 4 years of experience in full-scope accounting, including use of automated systems and data analysis tools or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for a degree.
