Job Description
Job Purpose / Description Of The Position
The Senior Director of Digital Strategy and Partnering position is a key enabler to achieving Sanofi’s corporate objectives by setting and refining digital buy/build/partner strategy and executing the right licensing and collaboration opportunities.  The main focus of this position is to set therapeutic or functional area digital strategy in collaboration with Digital Head and lead the overall evaluation and execution of transactions that achieve Sanofi’s digital priorities across therapeutic areas, geographies, and all stages of drug development and launch.  This person will be critical to all digital strategic partnering related activities and will work in close relationship and coordination with other teams including the Digital Heads, Due Diligence, Valuation, Legal, Alliance Management, and key stakeholders of the opportunity (business unit and/or functional area).  Transactions can include in-licensing, collaborations, co-development / co-promotion, option agreements in addition to other types of innovative partnerships. 
Mission And Objectives / Key Accountabilities
  • Lead digital partnering transactions for a given therapeutic area or functional area
  • Gather benchmarks and analyze comparables of BD transactions
  • Lead cross-functional teams including senior scientific, technical, finance, commercial, medical, market access, industrial affairs, regulatory and other functional representatives to develop optimal deal structures
  • Build business case and support valuation or ROI modeling of specific opportunities
  • Coach and mentor junior team members and support their development
  • Expand Sanofi’s reputation as partner of choice
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a wide array of industry participants including entrepreneurs, incubators / accelerators, investors, academic institutions, and investment bankers
  • Contribute to and lead teams in business case development, financial modeling, and valuation analysis incorporating probability, time, cost, budget impacts, and returns to allow for optimal strategic and investment decision making
  • Drive deal process
  • Develop deal structures and term sheets to drive or support negotiation of deal terms with 3rd parties
  • Recommend, advise, be thought partners to Digital Heads and other stakeholders
  • Monitor, analyze, and project development of sector
  • Investigate new fields of digital innovation and technologies in a given therapeutic area or functional area to inform strategic recommendations
  • Manage project and internal alignment / decision making processes
  • Present and make recommendations to senior management
  • Set / refine digital buy/build/partner strategy for a given therapeutic area(s) or functional area(s) in partnership and support of Digital Head
  • Assess new markets and landscape competition or comparable companies
  • Identify opportunities and threats for Sanofi
  • Work closely with Legal, Finance and other BD&L functions on term sheet, contract development and execution
  • Serve as a leader within the team on various internal initiatives to drive the success of Digital Strategic Partnerships
  • Develop scenarios for market development
Basic Qualifications:
Education
  • BA/BS required; MBA, MD, or advanced scientific degree (MS/PhD) is very strongly preferred
  • Second degree in a business discipline such as an MBA, finance/accounting degree, or legal degree is preferred
Experience & Knowledge
  • Demonstrated track record of working and leading cross-functionally with scientific, engineering, finance, and/or commercial team members
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical / biotech / medical device industry(ies), especially product development and/or commercialization
  • Multi-country and/or multi-functional experience
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
  • 7+ years of work experience in life sciences / health care or tech industry, minimum of 2 years in digital health space either from an investor, strategic partner, or start-up perspective
  • Demonstrated track record of presenting to, engaging with, and influencing senior company leaders such as Ex-comm members, SVPs, and Global Heads to drive partnership decision making
Language
  • Knowledge of additional languages preferred (esp. French, Mandarin)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
