- Acting as a primary point of contact and "external face" of Bayer to potential partner throughout the screening and possibly transaction process
- Presenting potential deals to various internal governance bodies for concurrence and approval
- Collaborating and driving the decision-making regarding specific business opportunities with various internal partners by integrating input from various functional areas across the organization to create high quality, clear, and decision enabling scientific assessments, due diligence reports and presentations with recommendations to Bayer s executive management
- Working closely with the due diligence team to identify, summarize and mitigate project risks
- Building, maintaining and leveraging a worldwide network of potential partners to create new portfolio opportunities
- Establishing, leading and maintaining comprehensive screening processes and coordinating multifunctional assessments for early-stage Oncology external opportunities; depending on your background, you may also work on clinical-stage opportunities and/or transactions
- Applying deep scientific and oncology landscape knowledge to assess and validate external opportunities while partnering internally with the Oncology R&D function and Business Unit to develop and refine the screening strategy such that the business development efforts are always in sync with the overall strategy
- Driving completion of transactions in a timely manner by either partnering with transaction leads or leading the licensing process including evaluating / drafting term sheets and negotiating contractual terms
- Direct experience in managing relationships and interfacing with biotech partners as an articulate communicator with strong negotiation skills
- Effective communication, critical cross functional thinking, problem solving skills along with strong scientific understanding and business acumen to engage with internal stakeholders and external partners – e.g., candidates must be able to synthesize complex information into succinct and effective storylines
- Sound knowledge of Oncology landscape (including targets and modalities), emerging science, the drug discovery process, industry trends and competitive practices
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize while balancing many projects and adept at utilizing databases and technology to increase efficiency for the broader team
- Demonstrated project management and leadership skills to lead/manage cross functional teams in evaluating partnering opportunities and producing high quality output of the diligence read out to enable decision making
- Ability to travel as needed, including internationally
- Passionate about therapies that can create a difference for patients
- A PhD, M.D., PharmD. or other advanced degree in life sciences and/or business with long-term broad pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, but we will consider candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Effective understanding of the pharmaceutical industry licensing process with experience in licensing transactions for drug discovery technologies or early-stage products in the area of Oncology, including structuring, negotiating and completing transactions is a plus
- History of working in complex and multicultural team environments with numerous / diverse stakeholders with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships throughout all levels of the organization
