Job Description
Company Description

Guardant Health is a leading precision oncology company focused on helping conquer cancer globally through use of its proprietary tests, vast data sets and advanced analytics. The Guardant Health oncology platform leverages capabilities to drive commercial adoption, improve patient clinical outcomes and lower healthcare costs across all stages of the cancer care continuum. Guardant Health has commercially launched Guardant360®, Guardant360 CDx, Guardant360 TissueNext™, Guardant360 Response™, and GuardantOMNI® tests for advanced stage cancer patients, and Guardant Reveal™ for early-stage cancer patients. The Guardant Health screening portfolio, including the Shield™ test, aims to address the needs of individuals eligible for cancer screening.

About the Role:

Over the past two years, Guardant has made considerable progress in transforming its capacity to operate as a global clinical, life sciences and data enterprise. This position will partner directly with the VP Global Data and Diagnostic Partnerships, continuing to drive both global excellence in life sciences as well as integration of data and diagnostic technology. The role will be based in the US to optimize the combined coverage for global clients and Guardant teams spanning Palo Alto to China.

Primary accountability will be to accelerate growth in strategic and novel data and diagnostic projects with life science companies, and the ecosystem they work with, ranging from leading clinical centres to those at the cutting edge of AI.

Focus will be on building strategic and long-term partnerships, closing business critical deals and then helping Guardant teams to deliver the greatest patient and enterprise value from them. The Director, Global BioPharma Partnerships will work closely with a multi-disciplinary and global biopharma team, a vibrant and fast-growing EU clinical enterprise, leaders in real world data and analytics, and peers within the AMEA region. The work will span drug discovery, translational medicine, clinical development, commercialization, as well as patient access, covering many different types of molecule from targeted therapy, to Immunotherapy, to cancer vaccines.

Excellence will be demonstrated by listening to the market, gaining the trust of innovators and recruiting leading experts in molecular diagnostics, data & analytics and clinical care to define and solve some of the most important challenges in therapeutic innovation. The Director will bring excellence in strategic relationship building, creative thinking, cross-functional working, cross-regional bridging, and management of contractual complexity into the organization, demonstrating its value to Guardant’s mission to transform cancer patients’ lives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building strategic and long-term relationships at all levels within life science companies, and be able to translate this into positive beliefs about the technology and the company you represent, whilst also have demonstrated the ability to convert that into value-add projects and significant revenues.
  • Effectiveness working within life science companies, as well as being a partner to them
  • Strong motivation to grow the business, not just your patch, and see the broader team succeed. You are able to prioritize and focus on the important, not just the urgent.
  • Comfortability with therapeutics, diagnostics and data.
  • Driven by patient impact and business success, and have a track record in strategic business development, having originated and led multi-million dollar deals.
  • Cross-functional partnerships with experts and strategic leaders in pharma, as well as Board level executives in Biotech.
  • Global experience, demonstrating the ability to engage and influence successfully across international regions, particularly the US and Europe, bringing the capability and enthusiasm to build up networks in both geographies.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the life science business, and how excellence translates into superior medicines and patient outcomes which spans discovery, development and commercialization on a global scale.
  • Team player, whilst also knowing when to step up and lead, be independent and a self-starter, and demonstrate excellence in judgement of when to facilitate understanding and be a resource and when and how to close deals.
  • A sophisticated grip of the way in which knowledge of how patients differ can be used startegically, how superior disease detection, profiling and monitoring technology can be utilized to improve medicine design and accelerate development, and how to work with life science teams to maximize this value.
  • Minimum of 8 years demonstrated successful pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology enterprise level business development / account management experience

Education:

  • BA or BS in life sciences desirable (Advanced degree, MBA a plus)
