The County of Riverside's Behavioral Health Department – Youth Hospital Intervention Program (YHIP) has an opening for a Senior Clinical Therapist position to serve two locations one in Perris and another in Temecula. The YHIP program is in Perris and is tasked with providing field-based, intensive crisis stabilization. Because of this, the length in the program is supposed to be short-term and focused on connecting clients to more long-term services. The Temecula Children’s program is an outpatient clinic that provides regular outpatient services, including assessment, diagnosis, care plan development, care coordination/case management, and many other outpatient services. This program too offers some field-based support but is largely office-based. Both programs are Full Service Partnerships (FSP), so the amount of services intended for these consumers is at a high level. The clinic also has a System of Care (SOC) track for our court dependents. Each team has a wide array of disciplines and the clinic also offers medication support. Both programs serve clients between 0 and 20 years of age.

The Senior Clinical Therapist is responsible for working closely with the Behavioral Health Services Supervisor (BHSS) and will serve as a clinical lead for both programs. The candidate will provide supervision support to unlicensed clinicians and will also support all clinician’s within the programs. The Senior Clinical Therapist will be responsible for keeping an accurate understanding of intensive cases between the two programs and will need to be effective at escalating matters and collaborating with both internal team members and outside agencies. The candidate will maintain a small caseload, but the candidate’s main focus will be to provide support clinically in both programs. This position will work a 9/80 schedule starting between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., some driving and field work is required.

Under direction, performs the full range of therapeutic assignments related to the field of mental or behavioral health services and psychiatric social work, which includes the design and implementation of personalized treatment plans, individual and group psychotherapy, evaluations and investigations, and professional counseling, as applicable by professional licensing law, in order to meet the needs of consumers or families with mental or emotional disorders; and performs other related duties as required.

The Senior Clinical Therapist is the lead/advanced journey level of the Clinical Therapist series. The Senior Clinical Therapist class has responsibility for providing clinical supervision, according to licensure and training, over unlicensed clinical staff. This classification is also responsible for performing, within the scope of licensure, the full range of psychotherapy and counseling services for individual consumers, couples, families, and groups exhibiting a variety of mental health and related disorders in a clinic or institutional setting. Assignments range from moderately difficult to the most complex and include serving in a lead capacity over and providing consultative support to other mental health treatment staff.

This classification is distinguished from the class of Mental Health Services Supervisor in that the latter class is the first line supervisor responsible for the planning or implementation of specialized mental health services. The Senior Clinical Therapist is further distinguished from the Clinical Therapist II in that the former is the lead level and may provide extensive clinical supervision, according to licensure and training, over unlicensed clinical staff.
