The Team You’ll Work With


The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives (DMSI) ensures that City government solves problems through holistic, accountable, and transparent means. With a focus on many of the administration’s top priorities - from creating opportunities for young people to strengthening the city’s civic infrastructure - the office works in partnership with stakeholders inside and outside of city government to develop, scale, coordinate, and deliver policies, plans and operations in an equitable and sustainable way.


The Deputy Mayor also oversees the following agencies and offices: the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Office of Food Policy, the Office of Non-Profit Services, the Office of Childcare and Early Childhood Education, the Center for Innovation through Data Intelligence, the Office of Youth Employment, the Children’s Cabinet, and the Commission on Gender Equity.


The Problems You’ll Solve


Reporting directly to the Principal Advisor, the Senior Advisor will provide high-level counsel on complex policy issues, strategic planning and implementation to the Mayor’s Office of Non-profits, Mayor’s Fund, Commission on Gender Equity, Childrens Cabinet and CIDI. The Sr. Advisor will analyze data, develop recommendations, and present key findings to the Principal Advisor for Deputy Mayor review. The Sr. Advisor meets regularly with business unit leaders to understand resource needs, provide feedback and guidance on vision, planned initiatives and to ultimately formulate clear and concise conclusions on internal controls, business processes and efficiencies.


  • Analyzing data, developing recommendations, and presenting findings to the Deputy Mayor.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with unit leadership and City agencies to drive DMSI priorities.
  • Strategize and coordinate with business units on policy issues, programs, and communication plans.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to, and lead the development of new, forward-looking policies and program initiatives to advance the City’s leadership.
  • Involved in the research and development of new initiatives, programs and emerging risk engagements.
  • Oversee development and implementation of DMSI initiatives including managing interagency work groups, advisory boards and/or committees.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders: State and Federal governmental agencies, community organizations, neighborhood and community leaders, and elected officials to support program, policy and initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and project management to oversee progress on implementation.

  • You have experience working in policy, capital planning, project management, operations, or government capacity.
  • And you must maintain confidentiality and use outstanding judgment daily.


Salary


The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is $145,000 - $156,000.


Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
