Scientific Consultant (Contract) Jobs

Intellectual Ventures (IV) is a privately held invention investment company based in Bellevue, Washington that is driven by the belief that we can change the world through the power of invention. The Enterprise Science Fund (ESF) within Intellectual Ventures is seeking expertise in condensed matter physics and/or materials science to support a project aimed at achieving high-temperature superconductivity.

The Scientific Consultant will support and manage research, development and commercialization efforts in areas related to high-temperature superconductivity.

Project Responsibilities:

• Develop presentations that include projections and analysis of the effort, as well as reviews of broader superconductivity research, to ESF leadership
• Support the current ESF superconductivity lead with project management across the ongoing experimental and computational efforts
• Provide scientific expertise, analysis and advice on project results, directions and strategy

The following skills are necessary to execute the Scientific Consultant role:

• Ability to work independently and effectively with a diverse group of interdisciplinary researchers
• Experience managing projects, with demonstrated expertise setting defined goals and strategically developing/managing experimental plans towards those goals
• At least three years of experience executing and/or managing research post-PhD desired, including post-doctoral, industry or related laboratory work
• PhD in a relevant field such as physics, materials science, or electrical engineering
• Interest in technology commercialization and working as part of a team in an exciting, fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and excellent organizational, project management and record-keeping skills aligned to ESF’s unwavering commitment to quality
• Knowledge of condensed matter physics, ideally with direct experimental and/or theoretical experience studying superconductivity
