MISSION STATEMENT

SCOPE OF POSITION:
Caregivers working in Sally's House are caring for children in emergency situations for children 2 to 12 years of age that are removed from their home due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or criminal activity. They provide a caring, safe and loving home for up to 20 children at one time.
- Food Handlers permit
- Have effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Have at least one year of successful experience working with children.
- Be able to pass a DSHS criminal background check and a Salvation Army Child Safety background check.
- Be emotionally mature and stable in order to provide consistency, structure, and nurturing.
- TB test.
- May be required to drive TSA fleet vehicles and if so:
- Be at least twenty-one years old.
- Blood borne pathogen/HIV training.
- Be free from communicable diseases as indicated by a TB screening.
- Child Safety Training
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- CPR/First Aid training.
- De-escalation and restraint training.
- Have the skills and abilities to work successfully with the challenging behaviors of children in care.
- Have uninhibited physical mobility in bending and lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Sally’s House operates 365 days per year; employees are required to work holidays.
- Training Tracks – required readings & reports for one year.
- Monthly staff meeting attendance & trainings.
- Be capable of auditory and visual supervision of children.
- High personal standards of cleanliness and thoroughness.
- Be available to be on-call to cover other shifts during the week.
- Be able to verbally and physically interact with the children in care.
- Make sure that the facility remains secure by keeping windows and doors locked and by reporting any security concerns.
- Offer guidance to the children as needed.
- Directly supervise children in care.
- Support new employees and practicum students by helping them understand the program and policies and procedures.
- Document children’s daily activities.
- Report allegations of abuse/neglect to a supervisor and to CPS within 24 hours.
- Develop positive, professional relationships with coworkers.
- Clean the facility when needed.
- Function as a team member.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Serve food to the children at meal times and snack times.
- Assist children in going to appointments and school as needed by driving, riding along, or walking children to destinations.
- Model appropriate social and interpersonal behaviors for the children.
- Follow posted schedules unless directed otherwise by a supervisor.
- Actively lead & participate in the children’s daily activities including bathing, meal times, sports activities, learning activities, swimming, field trips & tutoring.
- Provide consistency and structure.
- Contribute to a positive morale in the program.
- Assist the children in identifying and meeting their physical needs.
- Communicate program needs & children’s needs to supervisors.
- Assist with snow removal when necessary.
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the policies and procedures handbook.
- Do laundry when needed.
- Follow all Child Safety policies and procedures.
- Follow guidelines for the discipline of children, including proper implementation of the behavior management program.
- Ability to operate a desktop computer.
- Ability to understand written information.
- Ability to lift and carry 25-40 pounds on a regular basis (example: moving infant/child car seats in/out of vehicle).
- Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
- Ability to operate a telephone.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, automobile doors, and reach overhead.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.
Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.
Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.
Paid Vacation:
- Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
- Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
- Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
The Salvation Army will comply with all governmental orders and any contractual obligations relative to COVID-19 safety measures, including mandatory vaccination of staff, if required. The Salvation Army will consider requests for exemptions from any such requirements on either religious or medical grounds.
