Howdy! We’re The Coconut Cartel, a premium rum brand based in beautiful Miami, FL with distillery operations down in the Central American “Rum Valley” (Guatemala to be specific).
What began as a coconut smuggling business back in 2012, turned into one of America’s fastest growing premium rum brands with distribution in 16 states, 5 countries and counting!
Our new sales role will be a creative and dynamic energy who can lead us to deeper market penetration and long term success in our home state. They’ll drive initiatives, build relationships with customers, and work with our team and partners to ensure Coconut Cartel is thriving in the market. Overall they’ll be our boots on the ground to spread Coconut Cartel far and wide.
WHO ARE WE?
A first of its kind, our aged rum is cut to proof with freshly harvested coconut water, made for sipping and cocktails. It's a hit in the on and off premise for consumers looking to trade up to premium rum or dark spirits drinkers seeking something unique. Think Diplomatico with a twist! The brand is independently owned and operated by entrepreneur siblings Mike and Dani Zig right out of our offices in Coconut Grove with many trips down to their home country of Guatemala when it’s time to make more rum. Our products are made directly with our partners at a vertically integrated distillery from cane to bottle. We don't source from brokers or middlemen, our rum is made by the best just for us.
Coconut Cartel is one of the Fastest growing Premium Rum brands in the last 52 weeks on Nielsen data.
It was one of the fastest growing rum brands on Drizly in 2021.
And has won multiple Prestigious Awards such as, 2021 Double Gold San Francisco Spirits Competition, 2021 Platinum at SIP Awards, 2021 Triple Gold Microliquor Awards.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Down to the nitty gritty, this role will align sales goals with the management team and develop an annual sales plan, go to market approach and strategy in South Florida for both on and off premise channels. This role does require the candidate to be out in the field on a daily/weekly basis to engage with accounts and drive sales and brand awareness around Coconut Cartel.
Tasks will include:
- Identify, pitch and acquire new points of distribution in both the on and off premise.
- Build relationships with top accounts in both on and off premise
- Maintain regular appointments, follow up, and activations with top customers.
- Maintain a Customer Relationship Management platform, VIP Karma, to log progress against KPI’s.
- Build a relationship with distributor sales reps to keep brands top of mind.
- Support distributor incentives and programs that have been implemented by the sales management team
- Plan and execute solo market blitzes as well as formal distributor work-withs.
- Plan and execute tastings and promotions in both on and off premise channels.
- Coordinate with tasting agencies, buyers and distributor reps to execute off-premise and on-premise tasting opportunities.
- Work with the marketing team to develop marketing plans for assigned territories and ensure they run in conjunction with the sales strategy.
- Identify community sampling event opportunities in assigned territories and work directly with the marketing team to identify execution needs for these events.
- Relay in-market activity of competitive brands that would affect company interests.
- Maintain, track, and keep within expense account allowance in accordance with monthly budgets and programs.
- This position is responsible for working with distributor sales reps in targeted regions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 2-3 years of sales experience in the spirits or beer industry.
- Ability to hold a solicitor’s permit required.
- Understanding of key markets and seasonality in the region.
- Strong relationships with top accounts in both on and off premise channels.
-Willing to work industry hours when needed (nights and weekends)
- Previous experience working with distributor teams.
- Excellent communication skills. - can’t stress this one enough!
- An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
- Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines
- Willing to be very “hands-on” to get the job accomplished
- Bilingual preferred (English & Spanish) but not required.
