Job Description
Job Summary Statement


The Safety/Worker’s Compensation Coordinator will assist the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Department in supporting the implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. The Safety/Worker’s Compensation Coordinator will work closely with the EHS Department to maintain accurate records, coordinate safety training programs, and support EHS-related initiatives; will be a point of contact for the EHS Department for workers’ compensation, drug testing, and training records.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


Safety


  • DOT – maintains the DQ file, conducts annual reviews and MVRs, ensures physical examinations are renewed, and previous employment verifications are submitted and verified as required.
  • Conducts drug and alcohol testing, follows up with MRO results, communicates with HR, and coordinates return to duty.
  • Conducts and coordinates safety orientation, golf cart training and contractor safety orientation.
  • Coordinates forklift, golf cart classroom, and driver assessment training as needed; ensure candidates show up for scheduled appointments, ensure they sign in; and complete required forms before testing.
  • Gathers labor hours every month for safety reports; update monthly metric reports.
  • Administers forklift certification process including notification of forklift driver assessment results fail to HR, grading forklift written exam, and issuing badges.
  • Creates and maintain EHS files for all employees.
  • Prepares and prints out handout EHS information.
  • Maintains internal incident log.
  • Assists with the Spanish Forklift training.
  • Conducts monthly first aid kit audits and periodic safety audits.
  • Schedules and tracks monthly EHS Supervisor meetings attendance.


Worker’s Compensation


  • Assists with claim management including processing of claims, assisting with arranging medical treatment, management of treatment plan, investigations, and employee conferences.
  • Ensures confidential information and files are kept per internal and external guidelines.
  • Assists in maintaining summaries of work incidents, work-related accidents, illnesses, claim costs, reserves for open claims and recommendations to maximize employee safety and eliminate hazards and health risks.
  • Assists with Return-to-Work Program; tracks employees on Workers’ Comp leave and submits documents to Payroll to ensure payment for Workers’ Comp, vacation and sick days are properly administered during employees’ absences for work-related injuries.
  • Obtains all claim information through communication with supervisor, authorized medical providers and workers’ compensation insurance, benefits and payroll departments, and the injured employee.
  • Inputs OSHA recordables on OSHA log within 7 days of a recordable injury and submit annual OSHA log.


General/Other


  • Issue company and agency ID cards with the correct access levels
  • Process payroll deductions for lost badges or keys.
  • Creates requisitions for purchase orders and submits paperwork for new vendors.
  • Orders all safety and office supplies.
  • Codes safety invoices and create files.
  • Maintains safety shoe and safety glasses eye program and process reimbursements.
  • Any other job duties as required including security functions.


Minimum Requirements and Qualifications


  • Education High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information.
  • English & Spanish language skills Fully bi-lingual in Spanish, able to read, speak and write.
  • Experience Two (2) years of equivalent experience or combination of equivalent college education and experience.
  • Strong communication skills – oral and written.
  • Experience with MS office Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook.
  • Work environment Mainly in office atmosphere and will go to the manufacturing and distribution as needed.
  • Math skills Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Attention to Detail and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize work.
