The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Risk & Safety Coordinator ($57,915 - $71,915/yr. DOE) to work multilaterally with internal and external stakeholders to provide a safe and healthy work environment free of recognized hazards for employees and volunteers. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about building a Safety Culture by enhancing the City's Safety Program while displaying risk management skills by managing claims, light duty program, review certificates of insurance along with multiple projects. We are seeking someone who will truly care for our city.


The Risk Management Department is a part of the Human Resources Team which includes a Risk Manager and the vacant Risk & Safety Coordinator role. The team is small yet has a BIG impact upon our City staff, volunteers and community. This is position is a hybrid role in which there will be opportunities for field work along with administrative duties.


The Risk & Safety Coordinator role earns a competitive salary based on experience. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. Essential Functions Are


  • Performs work site inspections and visits to evaluate a broad range of field and office hazards and working conditions.
  • Coordinates and works closely with Department Safety Representative.
  • Plans, prepares, schedules, and performs safety training for employees on various topics applicable to City operations. Works closely with HR Business Partners overseeing the Learning Management System to develop safety curriculum for all employees.
  • Leverage statistical data and professionally convert the information to words and charts that can be presented to management.
  • Performs timely incident investigations after near misses, incidents, or exposures. May include responding to afterhours incidents or motor vehicle accidents.
  • Develops, modifies, and implements safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversees Citywide Safety Committee/Accident Review Board.
  • Prepares monthly reports for City safety performance and incidents.
  • Facilitate, process and manage liability, property and worker's compensation claims. Includes investigation, follow-up on recommendations, subrogating the claim if third party involved and filing claims with insurance carrier.
  • Conducts building inspections and safety surveys of City facilities, parks and structures.
  • Prepares reports related to worksite inspections and recommended action to be taken.
  • Facilitates random drug testing for safety sensitive positions.


Additional Duties


  • Coordinate annual Fire Department physicals.
  • Stays up to date on safety, health, and risk best practices, regulations, and trends.
  • Recognizes and reduces liability; trains and educates employees on safety.
  • Provides communication to department leadership on matters regarding safety and risk as it may pertain to them.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Run annual drivers' license reports for City employees. Responsible for annual reporting to the federal CDL Clearinghouse.


Requirements


  • Requires two years in the safety industry or closely related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Risk Management, or closely related field preferred.


Special Certifications And Licenses


  • Valid Texas Driver License


Emergency Management Responsibilities


This position will assist with emergency management planning. This role will also be required to operate within the Emergency Operations Center during an emergency, such as a hurricane, or other situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties the entire duration of the event.
