CERC strives to lower the cost of excellent healthcare in the United States by designing, pilot testing, and evaluating innovative models of care delivery. To accomplish this in part, CERC works with sponsors and national collaborators on its Bright Spots program of research derived from positive deviance approaches. Critical to this work are quantitative research inquiries to help identify “Bright Spots” in diverse care delivery models.


The Data Analyst will process a wide variety of complex healthcare data from various sources to produce analytical datasets and apply advanced statistical and other analytic methods to address a variety of innovative CERC research questions.


Duties Include


  • Collect, manage and clean datasets.
  • Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and determine root cause for data problems from input errors or inadequate field edits, and suggest possible solutions.
  • Analyze data processes in documentation.
  • Communicate with government officials, grant agencies and industry representatives.
  • Employ new and existing tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize multivariate relationships in data.
  • Create databases and reports, develop algorithms and statistical models, and perform statistical analyses appropriate to data and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculty and research staff on data collection and analysis methods.
  • Develop reports, charts, graphs and tables for use by investigators and for publication and presentation.

Desired Qualifications


  • Experience with cleaning, restructuring and merging datasets that may be nuanced, sparse, or otherwise "messy".
  • Familiarity with statistical packages like R (preferred), Python, or Stata.
  • Experience collaborating with clinical investigators on research in health services, public health or related discipline.
  • Bachelors or graduate degree in quantitative discipline such as statistics, health economics, public health, public policy, computer science.
  • Experience with programming languages such as SQL for querying large, relational databases, and using those skills in an externally created dashboard/sandbox.
  • Ability to translate broad research objectives into clear and testable research questions/hypotheses.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with acquisition and integration of data and codebooks from other sources and locations.


Education & Experience (required)


  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (required)


  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.


Physical Requirements


  • Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.
  • Rarely writing by hand.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.

The expected pay range for this position is $64,480 to $93,000 per annum.


Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
