U.S. Data Security (“USDS”) is a standalone department of TikTok in the U.S. This new security-first division was created to bring heightened focus and governance to our data protection policies and content assurance protocols to keep U.S. users safe. Our focus is on providing oversight and protection of the TikTok platform and user data in the U.S., so millions of Americans can continue turning to TikTok to learn something new, earn a living, express themselves creatively, or be entertained. The teams within USDS that deliver on this commitment daily span Trust & Safety, Security & Privacy, Engineering, User & Product Ops, Corporate Functions and more.
We are seeking a driven and experienced data technician who will be instrumental in informing research strategies around user threats. You will work directly with the T&S research lab, as well as other Safety and Security teams to inform user safety decisions related to: Violent Extremism (Radicalization, Recruitment, and Mobilization), Mis/Disinformation, Product Exploitation, Minor Predation, Bullying and Harassment, Fraud, and/or Transnational Criminal Organizations.
As a research data technician, you will have the opportunity to manage the development and management of various data sources, run data pipelines for research projects, ensure the quality and accuracy of the data, and work alongside scientists to inform research decisions.

- Collaborate on research projects to form best practices regarding data development and management.
- Identify and collect new data requirements for research projects.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of data.
- Work with Hive databases.

What should I bring with me?
- Minimum 3+ years work experience in big data management/analytics.
- 1+ years experience managing data projects and leading the coordination of various stakeholders.
- Advanced SQL competency.
- Understanding of database structures (e.g., Hive).
- Knowledge of querying/gathering/collecting data efficiently.
- Intermediate (i.e., graduate-level) Python competency.
- Understanding of data compliance and privacy practices.
- Ability to pivot priorities and adapt to fast turnarounds.
- Curiousity with an emphasis on asking lots of questions to reach mutual understanding between team members.
Preferred skills/qualifications:
- Experience with high volumes of complex social media data.
- Ability to understand and anticipate the needs of research scientists without extensive feedback.
- Ability to solve problems independently.
- Experience working alongside both technical and non-technical teams, as well as acting as a liaison between both groups.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $94755 - $200000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
